In the latest issue of the Norwegian Conan comic, there is an article about how Paradox Entertainment have bought the Conan rights. They have already sold the comic rights to Dark Horse Comics (yay!) and are looking for a "John Buscema" visual feel for Conan rather than the Arnie movie adoptation.

Also, they say there will be Conan books and computer games in the future. The article also states that Paradox has already made headlines with the released games of Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings! :D A bit misleading, but good advert anyway. They even have a pic of the Crusader Kings game cover.

Considering that Conan is the biggest adult comic in Norway, this could mean that sales will increase when it is released later this year.

And regarding Conan games, maybe one of the TBA games is just that, despite Paradox having denied this? Time will tell... ;)

EDIT: Translated part of the article:

"Conan ready for new comics"

American Dark Horse Comics will, starting this summer, release a monthly issue of Conan. They will also release the old classics in collection books

By Morten Harper

The Swedish game company Paradox Entertainment took over the international rights to Conan when they bough Conan Sales Company, which controls Robert E. Howards barbarian.

-"The potential in the Conan-character, the history and the fan-base is huge, annonced Theodore Berquist in Paradox Entertainment at the takeover. He promised to get the character moving right away."

-"We are planning to increase the liscenses in all media, including new books, comics and computer games."

Movie and Game

Paradox Entertainment har an announced goal to become an international leader in online gaming. (Games via internet). They have made headlines with games such as Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings and Mutant Chronicles (which is also a comic).

..... the rest is more talk about Dark Horse Comics, not really relevant here.

Nope. Check out www.conan.com (and join the forum if you haven't already and are a fan :)). You'll see that TDK is the developer for that one - an RPG.

Nice to see the cross-promotion of other Pardox products, though. That could expand the EU2/CK user base quite nicely, and more sales means more development funds and more great games. :)

But...but..the strategy game would be so much better....why would you ever want to play as conan? He is already better then us..

Well, I would kill for a rpg game in the style of Morrowind set in the hyborian age, that would be awsome. With the ability to form kingdoms etc also, giving the game a unique strategic edge as well.

Any more info on the Conan game?

Errr...a bit OT for the CK forum. (hint)

If you go to www.conan.com you'll see both the Mongoose d20 RPG game (pencil & paper D&D-type game) and the multi-platform TDK RPG computer game (PC/X-Box/etc.) listed there. There's also a Conan forum at that site...(hint, hint...you may recognise some names there ;))...which would be the best place to ask about CPI's plans.

Dragging this back on topic...

While the marketting efforts of CPI will probably not specifically promote Paradox games, I'm sure there will be some overlap and I can only see this as being of great potential benefit for the development side of Paradox.

If they mention CK as already being a success there will probably be quite an influx of folks here asking where they can get the game. Not good that the game isn;t already out, but good that more people get familiar with Paradox.:)
