10/17 Patch - CTD "Can't find evil events file..."

Got this one when I tried to start a new game with the 10/17 patch after a clean install of CK. Before that, I had the can't-load-saved-game CTD that someone else has reported. So, in good faith, I uninstalled CK (and the saved games I had too) and reinstalled it, then put the patch on. Now, when I start the game, no probs in the beginning. Then I pick an era. No prob. Then I pick a faction, again, no prob. But as the computer loads the scenario after I've chosen it and my starting dukedom, the game crashed with the subject-line message. Now I can't even play the game! At least the first patch let me play...

Please fix this soon, so I can play this game again.

You need to patch the game to 1.04a before you can install the beta(s). Sounds like that is your problem.

Yep.

That file was added in 1.04a and hasn't been updated since June so it isn't in the beta patch.
