People it is not polite to contact someone whom you have NOT spoken to for at least 6months with messages like 'Can u sub?' Not a hello, how you doing nothing. The players I used to play with have not bothered to stay in touch until they need something.

I am NOT available to sub thankyou, especially not after today.

Christ havent you heard of common curtesy :(

I tend to agree, always before asking someone to sub start a small talk, it never works for me but I guess that's cause my "talks" always involve bad sense of humor, but it should work for all of you!

When I ask for subbers it is usually 1 minute before game start and I copy and paste the same message to some 5-8 different persons. No time for small talk. But it is the same people I usually ask so I am never in the same situation (6 months since we last were on contact on ICQ) as BB's acquaintance apparently was.

I asked the same. I guess we both lack tact :p. I sometimes do have small talk when asking people to sub, but there's ussually no time. I just copy/paste "can you sub?" to a bunch of people. I'd probably get more subs if I did do that, but then again, maybe it wouldn't make a big difference?

To be honest, I prefere people to just ask "can you sub" to me, because it's easier to decline if I don't want to.

LE,

Most people don't bother pruning their ICQ lists and when there's a crunch for subs, that's just the way it is. If you've dropped out of the community and don't wish to have anything to do with it anymore, it's very easy to remove all of us from your list.

I tend to hold conversations with players I know/knew well, but for the rest... I send one message offering a game. If you want it, by all means we can catch up in vnet. If you don't, you don't even have to bother responding.

I rarely, if ever, contact long MIA players except to invite them to permanent slots. But sometimes that luxury just doesn't exist. And frankly, I don't see what the big deal is.

Don't take it personally LE. It's really time consuming to find subs and with up to 10 people waiting around a lack of small talk is inevitable. It's not not acknowledging you, it's merely getting straight to the point.

how about we all put a N/A mesage in icq saying "cant sub" or something, when one cant sub... although it is not very practical, it might help... or not...

ignore me. :)
edit: am on icq now with that message... cool !

As usual, LE shows an incredible need to grow some thicker skin. :D

Although I do agree that receiving "can you sub?" messages from people you forgot you even had on your list is kinda weird/annoying... but it's hardly something that should ruin your day or anything. ;)

I have like 60 people on the sublist, since i've added all the icqnumbers i find on the forum. Perhaps its time to send them a message about who really is still on for subbing :D

The ignore button is easy to use.

I always like to sub when I've some free time, and I understand those who are searching a sub that they don't have the time to ask long questions.

If you don't have time, you're free to ignore them or send them a "no thank you, I need to work instead of playing the most addictive game ever" :D

It pissed me off cos it made BF2 crash on me :p

I still think its rude that nobody has said boo to me in over 6 months. Yes I have left the community with the intention of not returning but I did play this game for almost 2 years as a regular...

On the subbing issue, I would be no good anyway. Havent played the game for ages, its not even installed on my new computer.

Now I spose I could've removed you all from my list, but then you people were my online friends for a long time and I was hoping to hear from you all from time to time. As you all know I love to talk :p

Anyway sozzy if I was agressive about it, no offense. :)

Play HOI2

Well, since I use only ICQ to EU2 contacts, I believe is practical and useful to just ask the basic question, cause it will get a basic answer: yes/no... Although, if you haven't played in awhile and ppl already knows this, it is unpolite to ask that... I believe your contacts should know if you don't wanna play anymore....

Now there's a problem and it's not ok

:p

If someone starts to smalltalk to me on ICQ, i just wonder what the fuck they want and start to get irritated...

Pfft, that should always be the case!
What exactly, about closing ICQ always when playing something or about girls craving for attention?
