Hi Gang. Been a big fan of HOI3 but presently am bored to death. I really didnt like the look of AOD more then anything, so i never really gave it a shot. I notice the modders here seem to have done alot of great work. Was just hoping for some feedback on what you think. Im looking for something to keep me busy :) Is the game ok? How are the mods?

TY! ;)

AoD is definitely worth a shot, but the opinions you'll get here might be somewhat biased. I think it is the most fun to play in the whole HoI series, and has a very elegant design - it tries to add detail only where it really improves gameplay. The AI automation is not as comprehensive as in HoI3, but probably the best in all HoI2 derivates. After setting it up in the beginning, you can just let it do its thing with trade, economy and spies and get pretty good results. I still check up on it occasionally, but unless I want to switch my strategy, I rarely find a need to change anything.
Darkest Hour has way better modding support (so you'll see more mods over there), but I still prefer to mod AoD because I find the underlying game to play better.

as for mods try CORE, TRM or SMEP depending on taste, or Titans mod http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...PARTITE-PACK-for-AoD-(new-graphics-and-audio)
(actually a must have)
Ha ha, thanks for the advertising, best! ;)

Anyway: @ Oliver, welcome to AoD and remember that my mod in fact only alters the graphics (some interface elements, icons etc. - check the thread) and some sounds but not the difficulty. If you want to try e.g. a harder Germany campaign there's the Third Reich mod; it's the one I'm currently playing and I can assure you that it makes for a very challenging game!

Speaking again about graphical enhancements, if you are interested in those and choose my mod then you can't either miss bestmajor's incredible leaders and ministers in colour (here). Thousands and thousands of carefully researched people which, apart from the obvious better appearance, are also 100% guaranteed to have existed IRL and with their correct rank. Check also his signature for other links of his stunning work!

As a long time CORE mod fan I would suggest you try it out - has plenty of historically meticulous research and plausible design. You can put some parts of Titan't Tripartite Pack mod on top of it manually which even enhances the experience even more.

What Hister says! The main game is good, but I like CORE even more. I've never actually tried any "pure" HoI game though.
