Integrity

I have verified my game files (on Steam)

Yes

I have disabled all mods

Yes

Required

Summary

Null error on startup on launcher

Description

The game gives me the "the games appears to have crashed or terminated unexpectedly (exit code null). The issue may be solved by verifying the integrity of your game files and deactivating any mods. if you are using windows you may also need to install visual C++ Redistributable and .net framework".

I have verified game files. Done everything the error said to do so. Deleted appdata and local data files and reinstalled the launcher to no change. This has been a constant issue since the games initial release. So I can't use this with steam. As I can only launch via clicking the games binaries. There is no crash / error log to upload after trying again.

Steps to reproduce

Start the game from launcher

Windows

So you can manually launch victoria3.exe but our launcher cannot, is that right?

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

victoria3.exe (in the Steam Vic3-binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam Vic3-launcher folder)
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2024.1/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT victoria3.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

I don't have one. Yes I can launch via the binary but this means I don't get any steam functionality. Here is the log file.

Okay after re reinstalling the launcher again, with the admin privileges for the files noted it's seeming to work now. Thankyou for your help and hope the threads helps others running into this.

I don't have one.
You always do ... if you haven't installed one then Windows Defender is automatically enabled!

Anyway glad you got there, all the best.
