ok so i bought the recently released collection for King Arthur off steam, everything downloaded just fine but upon trying to open the game for the first time i was met with an error message that says i need to have Nvidia Physx, from here i was given the option to download it, when i select this option it says that i have to do it manually because i do not have administrator privileges. this is particularly interesting because i am the admin. ive tried to find this damn thing everywhere and all i can find are adds and videos of it....no actual product or patch. any ideas?

This problem occurs quite a lot for Win7 and Win Vista users. Please follow these steps precisely to get the game start:

First, go to your Steam Games Library, right-click on King Arthur, select Properties / Local Files / Verify integrity of game cache... - to retrieve any files deleted/missing

NOTE: If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may need to manually run secondary installers required by this game. (always right-click on the .exe file and choose: "Run as administrator" - even if you already have admin rights!)

also NOTE: If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator."

Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to your King Arthur installation folder (Usually C:\ Program Files \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ king arthur - the role-playing wargame\)

You will need to run the following installers:

...\steamapps\common\king arthur - the role-playing wargame\InstallUtils\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe (right-click and choose: "Run as administrator")

...\steamapps\common\king arthur - the role-playing wargame\InstallUtils\vcredist_x86_SP1.exe (right-click and choose: "Run as administrator")

Restart your computer and test the issue again.

If you continue to have difficulty, run this installer as well:

...\steamapps\common\common\king arthur - the role-playing wargame\InstallUtils\PhysX_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware.exe (right-click and choose: "Run as administrator")

Then, restart your computer once more and test the issue again.

Please also check your spyware, antivirus and firewall, they might have put some game files in quarantine - this was the problem for many other players who couldn't launch the game at all.

If the issue still persists, we will need to understand more about your computer and its specification. To do this, we need you to generate a diagnostic (DxDiag) report. Please send it to us to support@kingarthurthewargame.com and describe what you have tried so far to launch the game.

Please also tell whether you are using a notebook or a desktop computer.

Hope this helps.

Reactions:
That is actually a problem with Steam, the gamersgate version does not have the problem. The easiest way to do it is to uninstall PhysX then run the game and let the first time step up install it for you. Also, do not attempt to update it with the download from nVidia after the first time setup finishes, it will just revert back to error message. This is all first hand experience. Recommendation is don't buy off Steam.

It asks for Nvidia PhysX, and you need PhysX no matter what graphics card you have. Most games that don't use Havoc use the Nvidia PhysX, it's not something that is uncommon in the gaming industry.

Please install it if the game asks for it and if you have Win 7 or Vista, you might need to manually run the installer as an administrator. If you need help with that, please read my previous post in this thread where I explain how you can do it. Follow the steps precisely one by one from the beginning till the end. If you still have problems running the game after that, please write to support@kingarthurthewargame.com.

Thanks for the reply, I installed it and the game now runs -- not sure why this Nvidia thing is required for this game but not dozens of others I've installed, and I don't like having to install it (who knows what conflicts it might cause -- pc gamers are paranoid) but the game now runs, albeit rather slowly (20 fps slower than Shogun 2 at the same resolution, which is surprising since Shogun 2 looks much, much better). I wonder if you guys just don't really optimize well for ATI card systems? In any event thanks for the prompt response, and please get the sequel better optimized for ATI systems.

Can I assume my drivers are fine if the PhysX util states my current drivers are newer than the one's trying to be installed? Or, do I need to remove my drivers and reinstall these drivers?
