Is there a way to avoid, or to wait out decolonisation events for France/UK?

The events are unavoidable (there are events that free the colonies if they are released puppets) and you get lots of dissent each time you get the event asking for the freedom of some colonies. As far as I know, India is one of the rare cases which get independence regardless of you wanting to keep it or not, you can just choose if it will be the Two-Nations Solution or the Single-Nation Solution to win out for the independence.
