This AAR is getting heavy, both in gameplay and here on the forum. Too many pictures are the probably reason, so this part will be cut of from most of the pictures, showing only the essential to see how you react (please, give me negative feedback if you think so).

(Screenshot folder of this part had 156 pictures, to a total of 30mt!)

Part IV, vol. 1: 1093-1103, ten years of chaos

Malachy's inheritance, 1093

"'twas now about a year or so since Malachy had been taken off the title of Count of Osraige. Conchbar's third son, Aed, was still without any land."

Conchbar took a look upon his duchy, finding that the rich Urmumu was still under the whip of the Typhoid Fever, so he decided to grant that piece of Ireland to his son, Aed. His second son, Malachy, hadn't contacted him after the revoking of Osraige, so Conchbar was a bit worried. After some investigations, it appeared that Malachy had moved with his wife to her father's, Kingdom of England, where Malachy had became a royal marshal - even tough he had became excommunicated as his father. Good for him.

Osraige was left a bit poor, so Conchbar decided to build there a forestry, and on May 26th he married a man from his court, Tadg, to a woman named Ragnchild, who brought her diplomatic skills with him, increasing Conchbar's look in the world's eyes a lot.

---

Increasing economy, 1093-1096

"Conchbar wanted to enrich his people, to show the world what they were made of. The answer is simple rather he didn't know it; Guinness."

On may 26th, Conchbar made a claim to the title of Count of Tir Connail using his prestige - gained from humiliating Scotland - to his neighbour, the Duke of Ulster. As an act of speeding the leaving of the Scots camping in Dublin, Conchbar finally started the building of a road network.

To be able to fight Ulster nearer in the future, Conchbar decided to not to collect scutage from his vassals, in order to make them stronger faster. On 21th of November it seemed like a loan from last year would have been collected as the fishermen of Meath had a particulary bad year and Conchbar had to give them one hundred in order to keep their fishing wharf alive.

Six days later, Conchbar received news of Malachy. He had became Bishop of Ochrid, and his son, Donal, had became Bishop of Tyrnovo - the second inheriter of the Pope!

The year ended quietly, probably the only thing to mention is that Conchbar decided to raise scutage to pay off the fishing support.

1094

March 15th, Wood Ploughs spread to Laigin from somewhere, making Conchbar anxious of more income. He decided to chance his military focusing on leather armour, to boost a little bit the defences of all the army.

May 1st, the forestry was finally completed in Osraige, and by a quick look, Conchbar realised that Aed's Urmumu had survived of Typhoid, making that province a rich one once more. Murchaid had also managed to make Mide rich, so it seemed that Conchbar was the poorest of the family! - Which was soon proved as Dublin became struggling June 22th.

The next day road network was completed, and on 10th of September shortbow invented in Dublin - not so bad after all. Only thirteen days later Clerical Celibacy spread to Laigin.

1095

February 26th, Business Contract spread to Dublin. June 22th, The Seven Liberal Arts spread to Osraige. On July 1st, the treasury of Conchbar had became positive - fishing wharf had been paid. Scutage was removed and Conchbar was now only waiting for money to pay the costs of the war.

October 9th, Pope passed away, but William de Normandie still stood as the Papal Controller - as not affected with the change.

1096

3rd of February, Conchbar was almost ready. His forces already hold the number 650, while Ulster had 840 men. Conchbar decided to wait, but not for long. Ten days later Dublin show little signs of restoration, as it became poor instead of struggling.

May 10th, the daughter of Conchbar, Aíbinn, finished her education becoming an intricate webweaver. Month later Soft Leather spread to Dublin, making Conchbar to focus onto chain armours instead.

The blood red hand of Ulster, 1097-1099

"Rising from his imaginary throne, Conchbar yelled: Rest horses!"

Grand mobilization was called on the first day of 1097. Soon the forces were gathered in Dublin again, armed to teeth singing national songs of Ireland. War was declared the 4th of February. First the forces of Conchbar met the Duke of Ulster himself in Ulster, defeated him just a bit before the forces from Tir Connail arrived - just to be pushed back to Tir Eoghain.

As the two defeated armies hurrily merged with the forces from Tir Eoghain, Conchbar marched into town, crushing the last hope of Ulster. The continued to Tir Connail where they started the siege.

1098

On 5th of March Business Contract spread to Osraige, and on April 1st, Annual Sailing spread to Laigin. 29 days later Soft leather spread there, followed up with Ascetism on June 15th.

Eleven days later, 26th, Tir Connail was liberated. While moving to Ulaid, Conchbar received a message how the bastards had sabotaged Osraige, destroying the forestry! Conchbar wore an oath of revenge.

While Meath and Laigin were fighting each other, it seemed that Sligo was in bigger problems with Scotland.

1099

The Pope calls to arms! Deus Vult!

Osraige rose from it's poor condition and Aíbinn turned 18. Conchbar started to look for a proper husband for her. After a long search Conchbar realised, that who would be more suitable for his daughter than his grandson! Soon the marriage of Cerball and Aíbinn was celebrated - not to mention the celebration when Conchbar heard that Aíbinn was pregnant!

Ulaid was liberated 9th of August, and the Duke of Ulster was soon without his claims and money, including Tir Connail, now part of Meath.

Hans had been humiliated.

I have all the hosting space I need, but today, after I removed my Temporary Internet Files, loading this page on my 256 took a lot of time ;) , so I thought about making it a bit lighter.

Ah, okay. Well if we readers spam a little more here, you'll soon be able to post the next update on page 2. When is that update coming BTW?

Edit: Ah, I guess only one more post was needed :D

Part IV, vol. 2: 1093-1103, ten year of chaos

The beginning of an end, 1099-1100

"Conchbar looked upon his newly gained Tir Connail. Let God bless me before my death, he said."

The old duke decided to appoint a bishop in control of Tir Connail to gain himself piety. Domnall O'Brien, not closely relative, was appointed to the task. The same days road network was started to build in Laigin.

Few months later it appeared that Robert de Normandie had been appointed as the Papal Controller, and it was clear from whom he had it inherited - old William had died (He lasted less years than Conchbar - who was currently 80! Rejoy!).

1100 - new century

The century changed... pretty quietly for Meath. Probably the biggest achievement was that Conchbar was now able to control four provinces instead of three in order to gain all the income.

Pope's task was passed once again on April 3rd, but King of England kept his control. 22th nobility in demanded Prima Noctae rights, but Conchbar decided to deny them, so passing little of the city's power to peasants.

May 7th Annual Sailing spread to Dublin, followed by Dysentery on 30th. Impoverishing the capital, the disease made the whole duchy poorer.

August 8th a little bit better news arrived, as the road network in Laigin was completed. Still worried of Dublin, Conchbar decided to marry a new steward - bringing the duchy more income - more power.

Road building soon reached parts it yet hadn't; It spread to Osraige December 22th, two days before the first one of the Christmas of the new century.

Final frontier, 1101-1102

"Rest horses!"

The year made Conchbar what he would have wished to been made in the start of the century - a year ago. Claims on Tir Eoghain were made and forces were gathered to Dublin. March started on March 2nd, Battle of Tir Eoghain on April 4th and the siege of Tir Eoghain a few days later.

Altough Chain Armour was not yet invented, Conchbar changed the focus on Crush Weapons. June 21th, the same events that had appeared the time the last war, appeared again - Sligo was in problems. It somehow had survived the crushing Scotland, but this time nothing - well, maybe Conchbar, but that he didn't try - could have helped them. They were at war with the probably mightiest nation in the world - England.

sligo.jpg

While their fellow men were fighting for their lives, Laigin concentrated on growing and it grew rich. Soon it was time to choose education for the two daughters of Aíbinn and Cerball - so to say - two grand- and great grandchildren to Conchbar, which the oldest one was named Mór.

Not to mention Aíbinn was pregnant and waiting for another child.

1102

February 27th, Tir Eoghain was liberated and added to the Duchy of Meath, the growing Irish power. On the ownage of Tir Connail and Tir Eoghain, Conchbar claimed his right to the title of Duke of Ulster and marched on to Ulaid. Behind him, Tir Eoghain grew rich...

While sieging Ulaid, sad message reached the old duke - Sligo had fallen. English had now a foothold in Ireland - and in order to conguer Ireland... Conchbar had to fight the English. It shall prove interesting.

Third daughter of Cerball and Aíbinn was born by the name of Bébinn. Soon sad messages flew around the duchy. Thieves guild had been formed in Laigin.

End of a generation

conchbarend.jpg

Conchbar was probably one of the last men of his generation to leave the face of earth. He had been one of the strongest, not one of the most power, but one with more achievements than any other. The old duke of Meath and Leinster with the age of 82 met his end 9th of September while sieging Ulaid in order to claim himself as the Duke of Ulster also.

Murchaid was soon to take his place and to continue on his father's goal, who was about the same age when he started his campaign.

---

The journey - far from over, 1103

"Leaving his father passing away as it's own concern, Murchaid waited for leaving Ulaid."

While Ulaid was still under siege, Murchaid named his son Cerball as the Count of Laigin in order to gain prestige. Soon the richness of Tir Eoghain glew away, a highway robber band was formed. Like the people hated the new duke, Smugglers' ring was formed in Dublin.

Ulaid was liberated in September 20th, thanks to traitors in the enemy castle. Murchaid was installed as the Duke of Ulster, but Hans, now the Count of Ulaid, decided to stay out of the duchy - independent, making more harm to Murchaid than he guessed.

It seemed Cerball had been cursed! For some reason, Pope had excommunicated him - did Pope have something personal with the O'Briens? Murchaid draw a line in the ground...

It was not yet sure, that Cerball would have a son to inherit the throne from Murchaid, so Murchaid married a young, 16 years old girl from Ulaid to make him another son.

To be continued...

About bloody time Conchbar threw in the towel :D

Nasty about the english gaining a foothold. That could be troublesome later on.

you asked for it so i give you negative feedback ;) the more screenies, the better! thx for the great AAR and good luck :)

Sure, thanks, I'll fix it in the next part. ;)
(I'll try to decrease the quality in order to show more...)

Part five was already played, but today trying to continue from that (to part six), I noticed the save game was somehow corrupted, making a CTD after few months of play.

As a conclusion I played part five again, but it will take a moment to get here (maybe tomorrow). My thought was that, I will first write the corrupted part five, and then the official (working) part five - as a divided story - telling what happened if Murchaid choose different.
