Please I need help,



I have been modifying event outcome percentages through the notepad app and I didnt have any problems until it suddenly started crashing on me.



It freezes and crashes on a certain date, always at the end of the day on the clock.



After that I reinstated the original files and started modifying slowly events and now after only a few changes same crash happens to me.



There is no log on the savedebug level 2, no same event happens, nothing concrete, there would just be a random crash at the end of the day say August 2nd 1937.



There is absolutely nothing I can do, please I love this game does anybody have any idea what is happening.

Did you check with debug level = 1?
 
Darkest Hour\settings.cfg can be edited to set debug to 1 instead of 0 enable debug mode

Do this first. You will probably get more help that way.

You change 1 and it crashes? Which 1? Screen shot or copy and paste the event before and after the change.
 
2nd Problem I have now, I cannot edit the Excel files easily, like Provinces etc.

For some reason on the newer excel versions the text of the file is entirely in A column, and you cannkt sift thru the data easily

If you use the Text to column option and break the data by semicolon ; then the game crashes.

It is impossible to edit like this because it is all jumbled together.

Does anyone have an advice for this?

Where did you read that excel would be a good program to edit DH files and worse: to probably save those files with excel?
Use a standard asci-editor instead.

Many editors like word or excel etc. save additional layout information like bold, size etc. with the original information. You definetly want to avoid this when editing game files because it changes the data.
A standard and free editor many modders use: Notepad++

I last used Excel to edit Paradox game files +10 years ago, but from what I remember and understand, Excel might've occasionally merged cells together or deleted them, which corrupts the file. I stopped using Excel for said purpose after a few months after I understood Notepad had no such issues.

The problem is it is easier to edit province.csv in excel, it is impossible to do it fast in notepad, all lines and semicolons you cant discern whic one you need. The columns are nice to overview.

Another issue I have for some reason my game is lagging when I start the scenarion. Slow speed and mouse lag.

I have to sleep my laptop and wake it up and then it works fine. What could this be? Strange
 
Except for the language stuff, the other errors seem straightforward. Remove the forts or add beaches. Remove the invalid SP attachments. Remove 1 instance each of the duplicate technologies. Fix your use of AUS in Chile. I don't know who you intend to be there but unless it is Australia it is a mistake imo. JMO ymmv
 
I have cleaned them all up just now and it is still crashing. There is no way around the crash.

Could I uoload the whole mod on mega or something for someone to have a look?

If onky it was showing uo so I knew what it was, what could be causing a crash with no error log?
 
Without the log, I have no idea. You need help from a good modder. I suggest contacting either the author of whatever mod you are using or maybe PM LordRommel to see if he can help. Good luck. If it was me, and I couldn't get help, I would start with a clean slate. Everything back to normal and make 1 and only 1 change at a time. Test that to see if it works and if it does, go to the next change. You have to start with a base working copy though. Jmo, ymmv

So I am on to something,

I have started using the Notepad++

What I did was, I made a new blank copy of a file I was suspecting was causing the crash.

Then I copied the data by selecting all from the corrupt file onto the blank one and saved it in the Events directory.

When I started the game the Savedebug started saying the ID event database mismatch ERROR for most if not all events inside.

I am pretty sure there is no other event with this number id, what should I do? Do you know this type of bug.

I am trying out now if it crashes nevertheless and then I am gonna try editing event numbers.
But that is gonna cause a whole host of other problems?

So as far as I can tell it is still crashing but at a later date than usual, my only guess is the files are corrupt and/or I missed something I guess.

I am gonna try copying the original files from the latest patch version online and start editing with Notepad++ again, maybe it doesnt crash on me.

P.S. please what app would you use for the Excel table files like Province.csv? Notepad++ as well?
I cant work with that, the excel columns give me a great overview,

Any recommendations on what apps to use to avoid file corruption??
