Hi all,

Upon returning to this amazingly addictive (even when I am being totally hammered by it) game, I quickly found myself back into the same position on a number of issues:

CKDV+DVIP December 2009+BOPAK

I started a new game as the Duke of Apulia and now, in 1092, find myself as the King of Sicily, Duke of Apulia, etc, etc.

My prestige and Piety are below 100 at the moment, as I have been having some bad events (but no assasination attempts). Kingdom stability is zero.

1) I often, nay always have problems getting agreements from other rulers to marry people in my dynasty. This is true regardless if it is a Duchy or a County, regardless of the similarity in religious conditions.

What are the major factors that are evaluated by the AI to determine if it will accept a marriage proposal?

It is mentioned that I can manage the marriages of my vassals. How exactly do I do that. Does this mean I can dictate that someone from Vassal A marry into another kingdom, or does it just mean that when I request a marriage witha vassal, it is automatically accepted?

I still have problems determining how to best marry off daughters and other females of my bloodline. And I still struggle to understand at times how bloodline is traced. For instance, My leaders eldest daughter was married to a count in a kingdom with semicsalic Primogeniture. They have had five sons, and the eldest is the heir, but why does not my bloodline marker appear on my daughter's son (my grandson). I have my kingdom set to salic consaguinity (sp?). Also, my leader doesn't appear in the succession line, even though it is my grandson?

(I wish there were some graphic representations that stepped you through each of the possible relations and generational relations - if I ever feel that I understand it well enough, I will chart them out myself.)

(I also wish that there was a "groom finder" similar to a "bride finder")

This is the biggest barrier to my getting into the game fully is understading how all of the different relations and inheritances interact to determine succession.

My other questions are on courtiers:

I am currently having a hard time with coutiers (very high stats gained through good marriages) who fire with the events "If my talents aren't valued here".

They are already appointed as my steward, chancellor, etc. What do I need to do to retain them and why does loyalty fall of with these? The loyalty is slightly negative per month and it says due to traits, but my leader doesn't have any bad traits and had a great reputation. So what is going on here?

Thanks,

1. I am not sure what exactly determines if an offer of marriage is accepted, but prestige of the suitor is helpful (if he has any). Also heirs and your ruler are easy to marry off .. so are good-statted young females (you'll get spammed on those).

As to why someone would refuse you, depends on many things. Maybe you are trying to marry your no-good bastard son with -25 prestige to a ruler's only daughter?? .... or his very best spymaster. You will get shot down sometimes, but using the ledger (page 5 is a bride finder) I almost always find someone who will take my offers.

For your eldest daughter, you get dowry money, and as such you would want her to be married into the most wealthy family you can find. Other than that, I just marry off my females in court if I need to breed a larger court, or just send them off to somewhere if I don't need their skills.

Family is only traced through the male line (the ones with your dynasty name). As the daughter has married outside the family, her sons will be in their father's dynasty, not yours. In semi-salic I think it only traces children of the family females, and as such you can't inherit through your daughters. Also he has 4 brothers and probably several uncles and cousins, so even if you were in the successionline, you would be number 25 or something like that :)

The loyalty drop because of traits is because your traits are incompatible to his/hers. If you are Lustful and they are Chaste you will get a malus to the loyalty modifier. People of opposite traits rarely like each other that much.

You can see which traits are opposites here, as well as their modifiers: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?380922-New-Traits-FAQ-for-Deus-Vult

Thanks for the very informative post.

I will re-think the amount of time I was spending on getting my daughters married off into other courts.

NOw I understand better about the traits. So now I need to be using that as well when sorting through the bride finder. Holy Moley this gets more complicated (and fun).

If you want to inherit other realms, you will need to marry your heirs into other royal families ... his sons will be of your bloodline and a way to gain more territory.

Also keep in mind that if you find a bride for your son (still in your court) the bride will (at best) have to be compatible with your ruler's traits. Her loyalty is measured against the traits of the ruler and not her husband (your son). When you grant your son his own land his bride will shift and measure by his traits. So finding a bride takes a bit of planning :)
