so would a good old France vs. England :D

thanx for all the suggestions...althoug I must say that a game of France vs. England would be seriously unbalanced if u start in 1419?

Well, still, the fact remains Burgundy & England vs. France and vassals is a wee bit unbalanced. If the French player were really exceptional and the English player only a beginner, I could possibly agree, but otherwise, it's simply too easy as the English player.

England vs France

I think that France has a chance in the first war and definately in the game. Let Henry V die then build cavalry, wait until you get your own good leaders from around 1425, crush the british armies. This can be done. If you loose the first war, win the second or better...last!

Ehm, We have played quiet a few MP games, with Human players controlling England and France, and the experince showes that unless the English does not make a huge mistake, France does not have a chance at all. The English only have to pursue the tactic of annihilating all the french forces whereever they might pop-up, and once they are all eliminated, they can go on and easily conquer all the french possessions. I do not have to mention that Orleans gets conquered right away, Auvergne and Anjou are far from being a thread, and England gets 3 top ranking leaders in 1419, plus a very healthy alliance of Burgundy and Brittany. Scotland will usually will settle for a white peace even if they controll 2-3 english provinces. All in one, France has almost no chance to avoid a huge blow early on in the game, if both she and England are controlled by Human players.;)

I have to agree with Attila. I have played in games where both England and France where human controlled and every time France has gotten very badly mauled.

I have to agree as well,...with France its easy against the AI because the AI doesnt understand the necessity of hunting down and anihilating the french forces....but with a human...byebye France

The very few times that I have been France I have one each time. It is very simple. Move your treasury tab all the way to the right in the bugget window. In this manner you will become filthy rich. You have to make this end after the war though because your inflation will get really high. The military strategy is as follows: split your army in Ill de France (Paris) into groups of 6,000 each. Lay siege to Calais, and most of the Burgundian provinces in the North. If the English are AI they will attack Orleanis and areas east of there first. If it is a human player then it is a different story, but it can still be won.:D England and allies have massive armies, but they get tied up in attrition when they besiege your land. After you have won the northwestern front you can use your armies elsewhere. Withdraw everything (including the army in Languedoc) to Central France. Use the split-up method again and take Orleanis, Bourgogne, and Normandie. (If you would notice by now the English have been caught by surprise from your original attack and are being cornered.) By now Henry V is dead and they are pretty much down to Bedford. Sign peace with Burgundy and take about 2 or 3 provinces. (The Dutch ones are better because they have higher revenue.) When you get General Richemont you are ready to take on Bedford. Merge together a force of maybe 20,000 men (depending on how much Bedford has) and attack him. You should win. Pursue him until he is too weak to pose a threat. The England and allies prbably control about 2 of your province's in the West. Now make sure that there are no more enemy army threats and recapture all of your lost territory in western France. While you are at it you should invade Brittany and take 2 of there provinces in a separate peace. By now you should control all of the English provinces in Continetal Europe (unless they somehow were ceded one from another country). If you have done everything right and avoided costly battles at the beginning of the war then you should be able to get all of their land in continental Europe except for Calais in the treaty. Happy huntting! ;)

The best way to win as France is to mass the northern and southern armies in central France in one of your vassals, then wait for either A) the English armies to unite and die of attrition, and/or B) Hit them when they split up with your combined army. If you're lucky, you should win a battle or two this way, and follow up by pursuing the English army. You might be able to cut the English in half this way, which makes things much easier. :)
