I see that there are several good mods for FtG, some covering the medieval, and some the post-medieval period. I wonder if it's possible and makes sense to create one mod that would have as long timeline as possible (from the "Dark Ages" to the beginning of 20th century), and include all the cool stuff (events, leaders etc.) from all the best mods out here. Of course there may be some problems with things like technologies, but I think it would be fun to be able to play for 1000 years or more :) (Btw is there a limit to the maximum game length?)

Maybe I'll try to make such mod if nobody else does it, but first I prefer to play the existing ones a little more :)

Well, WATKABAOI is 1337-1914, but I mean something that starts in the Early Middle Ages, like Arabia Universalis (711), Medieval World (844), or Dawn of Kingdoms (888). If I decide to make such mod, I'll start with one of these, and merge it with a mod about the later times. Medieval World (844-1336) and WATKABAOI are good candidates for the merge (but they use different maps, so I guess it would require lots of work with things like changing the province IDs for events). But I'd like to add stuff from other mods too, especially all those events from AGCEEP.

An alternative approach would be making a converter that transfers savegames from one mod to another.

Thanks for your offer, but I'm not going to start merging the mods now, I prefer to wait some months until they get more developed, and concentrate on playing the game for now. I started this thread now to find out what others think about my idea.

i wouldnt necessarily wait for the 'old' modders to come back

some are (kasperus), but remember eu2 is a game from about 2002, and the vast majority of modders - particularly major ones - are finished with it

I'd think your first obstacle is the map - You cannot really use the medieval maps for mods since the Age of Exploration and the full world maps lack the detail of the medieval maps. A unified mod would therefor need to include greatly simplified versions of those mods and that brings the work down to mostly boring converting, which most modders really dislike ;).

Yes, you're right that the Old World part of the map needs to be simplified compared to medieval mods. But I think your WATK map is good enough :) (and you're still improving it, according to its thread).

I downloaded some mediaval mods (Medieval World, Arabia Universalis), and it seems they are still in the early stages of develompent, without many events and leaders. That's why I need to wait before starting my project. Marionette is right that many of the 'old modders' probably won't come back, but there are some people that are still working on their mods (like cool-toxic and The Swert), and I hope their mods will become fully developed, with many interesting events and other stuff.

I'm not afraid of "boring converting", I'm a programmer so maybe I'll be able to make some parts of this process automatic.

In theory, the idea of making a mod spanning the entire time frame is now possible; the main objection - ancient city names which exist throughout the entire game, is now solved.

For example, we can now change Byzantium into Constantinople, and into Istanbul.
