Technical Problem

I have a technical problem that I need your help with please. (with a sugar on top! ;) )

Game Version & Patch (incl. country): 1.08, june 2004, french version (but the patch is obiously in english  )

OS & build/SP: Windows 2000 pro, SP4

Computer, CPU & speed: Athlon XP2000+ (1.4 GHz ?)

RAM: 512 MO DDR

Free HDD space: about 30 Go (Gb in Great Britain?)

Video (brand, model, driver, memory): NVidia GeForce FX-5700

Sound (brand, model, driver): on board NForce2 (MSI K7N2 delta-L) (drivers from September 2004)

DirectX Version: 9.0b

Other:

I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:

Okay, first let's admit this problem is not specific to eu2. I've just encountered it in eu2 first (maybe because playing eu2 is my main activity? ), but winamp 5.x is affected as well (but strangely not Winamp 2.x).

So, what is it? Well, the first song plays normally when I launch the game, but then music track freezes (I mean "get silent"). Other sounds keep playing just fine however...

I don't expect you to do an autopsy of my computer. But if anyone has already got such an issue and/or knows how to solve it, that would be welcome!

What do you mean by additional sound files???
You cannot mean game sound files since the problem occurs with other apps as well.
You cannot mean driver files or the music would not play at all.
Confussed!

Nil-the-frogg:

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

@ Cecasander: That's kind of you, but I haven't really understood what you meant  . I'm sure this isn't due to missing mp3 though.

@ Castellon: Yep, I've ran it already, but everything seems okay, which isn't surprising since dxdiag only tests one sound file at a time and my bug appears only with the -not tested- second one. :( I'll nevertheless restart it tonight (it's 8 am here) and post the results tomorrow.

Okay, it was really to see what hardware and drivers you were running, more than for the tests.

Okay, here is my dxdiag.txt (hope everything needed is in it... this is quite a big post in the end! ):

Well you are not using the VIA drivers, which is good since they are known to be buggy. :)

I do see that you are using DX 9.0b with very new drivers, that may be optimized for 9.0c, the earlier version of winamp may avoid the advance feature causing distress.

My advice is to look at the sound card manufacturers tech pages and see if anything like your problem is listed.

Thanks, then I'll try again to check MSI about it. Oh, and I'll install directx 9.0c.

I'll let you know the results...

Well, I fear that directX 9.0c doesn't help... :(

And I've not been able to find something usefull on MSI boards either (silly me, or silly them, don't know  )

I'll keep seeking the web, maybe registering in some technical forum... Any help still appreciated though ;) .

You could try reducing the acceleration a notch or two on your sound card.
You can access that in Dxdiag.

Silly Me!

Yes, silly me! :D

Seems like installation of directx 9.0c has solved the problem. But I haven't noticed this cause music level in EU2 was set to 0. By the way, EU2 still plays first song at max volume with this setting

I had reduced level to 0 because when only the first song was playing, then it was melting with my winamp output. But I noticed that first song always plays, no matter the music volume. And I forgot it to 0. So when I tested after directx install, the bug did'nt seem to be fixed...

Hum, my poor english might not make this very clear. . Well, Let's summarize this a bit: my problem seems to be solved. :)

Understood perfectly, and that's great!
