Are the performance improvements supposed to be in the beta already? The pop system has been replaced, if that was the key bottleneck I would expect things to be better now, yet the days tick away ever more slowly in my beta games so far. Have others observed those performance improvements from removing pops yet?

Then again, I even tried playing on a huge galaxy with zero AI empires and just 1 planet owned but by the time the whole galaxy was explored the game's performance was already pretty terrible. With just the fallen empires and a few primitives on the map aside from me. So there is a good chance sth else is going on.

Whatever it is, I'm hoping the devs are on top of it. Performance is the make it or break deal in Stellaris and has been for a long time as far as I am concerned.

IRC they are still calculating pop actions on a daily basis so that they can better debug the new features. For 4.0 they will change them to monthly, so the performance should be drastically better.

No. If memory serves they said performance improvements wouldn't be implemented because its easier to find out what cause a bug when things aren't being done in parallel. So I doubt the performance improvements will be available in the beta at all.

Yeah, it's a shame that the main selling point of 4.0 isn't even really happening yet. Wasn't that the major, initial driving concept behind the whole thing? I know it's what got me excited. I was quite shocked when they mentioned no performance changes for a while and that future ones are still only speculative. But no one on the forum seemed to mind, at least.

I think putting aside the "zones" distraction for now would be a great way to help them focus on performance. I'd be all in favour of that.

Precisely the point. And I am shocked that the performance is this bad considering that the pop system was considered a key contributing factor and it is removed/altered in the beta. For me, performance is the only thing that matters here. Zones are fine and everything but conceptually the previous system was also fine. It just wasn't performing well enough.

The trade hyperlane performance tax is honestly huge, too. It's great that 4.0 is doing away with it. Isn't the beta already experiencing those gains?

Anyway there is an excellent mod that removes trade performance lag from 3.14 in a very discrete and clean way. So we can always just stay on that version if need be.

Considering the performance of the open beta is pretty much abysmal I'd say no. This is what I find so surprising as well, that several of the supposedly costly systems are already out and yet no improvement.

I don't understand why pops are even 'splitting' into 100. It makes planning job counts a nightmare, especially when bonuses are taken into account for jobs you want to limit. It's also just not possible, at a glance, to tell how many pops you have anywhere. Is it 52? 5.3k? Oh but I have 245 entertainers oh no wait, it's 2. I want to go down to 150 entertainers can I do that? Lol also no.

Just... just chunk it 1:1. This funky 1:100 does absolutely nothing.

Right now in the beta you get a few pops of growth every month (of the new scale), often a few of several different species. Would you suggest getting fractional pops? Because otherwise the system does not work.

I would "suggest" scrapping the system entirely. But for fractional pops, this is just introducing a problem and then solving it. It's pointless and also reduces the game's quality of life.

Currently the performance feels, at times, worse. And the new systems they introduced are nowhere near ready to be released and replacing the existing ones.

That's honestly what surprises me. Trade lanes and calcualtions is gone, this should lead to a performance improvement. That hasn't happened.

They are costly systems. And while they haven't even tried the new pop calculations. The trade one is gone and should lead to a better performance. Yet the new system and changes seem to make things so much worse that the performance remains similar if not worse.
