This is rapidly becoming my favorite AAR.
Thank you so much!

Loving the AAR! What do you plan to do next?
Build up an army and gain Vizcaya/Labourd for the Basque peoples. However, the nation is rapidly going in the direction of multicultural diversity and acceptance, so the point of regaining our cultural brethren is kind of moot. Still, gonna do it. After that, who knows. For some reason, the "Form France" decision has disappeared. I still have "Form Spain," so perhaps I will do that.

I thought you can move your capital to a non-core province? Either way, suite yourself.

I think there's an event that turns a non-catholic (or non-papacy) papal-state into Italy.

I checked. One can not move the capital to a non-core.
That Italy event is interesting. I suppose I will have to find out about it.

I clearly remember having a non-core capital at some point... Ah, yes, now I remember! You can STILL lose your capital in a war if you have no cores besides it, which will force-move your capital to one of the non-core provinces that you own.
Not that it's relevant now - just know that there are tricks to get around almost any problem

You have to engineer it to move the capital like this , like having one or two inland creek provinces , and losing the capital , it's gamey but doable.

Just a question:
Was the trade range a problem at any point of the game or was it always possible to trade in all those CoTs despite having switched your capital to the new world?

Hm. Never heard of doing that before. Good to know.

Well yeah. Kinda the reason I had to conquer Ryukyu; trade range was not far enough to get into China and Japan. For a few years at the game start locations such as Novgorod and Alexandria were out of reach, but it did not take long for tech to make up for it.

OPERATION EXODUS: Chapter 7

r0t0I.png

Now that we have firmly established the republic in the new world, it is time to turn our attention to the liberation of our Basque brothers. We only have 11k manpower; a measely sum, although probably incorrect as I took this picture after a war. Might have been around 33k at the max. Anyway, all kinds of military buildings are going up around the nation, bolstering our numbers.

fjwdo.png

Trade, however, is anything but bolstered, and in fact floundering. At least, in Europe anyway. Mercantalism is starting to take a grip upon the European people, who have staunchly refused basque merchants in their centers of trade, sometimes even issuing an embargo if we become too persistent. I have opted to permanently abandon all hope of auto-sending successful merchants to this continent. Oman is a big competitor in the far east, but at least locations there are still manageable.

rsu6l.png

To further increase our income and manpower, three native american CoT's are conquered, and the native population is left intact.

bDGJm.png

Hells yes. I am fairly certain this will be good for our manpower issue, since they are now "part of our heritage" they will be willing to fight for us. Right?

zoSgT.png

Ah, no. Not yet anyway. We are not ready. Goodbye alliance with Castille.

Czd35.png

Hmph. I should have stuck with them. Whatever.

pY6Lh.png

Colonizing Taiwan. Why? No idea. I need another barque for it anyway.

10Sxd.png

Immediately following their loss at the hands of the Spanish, France tries her hand at colonizing. I made sure that didn't happen.

ovulf.png

The income charts. Looking pretty good, no? This is even still with all of the European CoT's out of our reach due to mercantalism, in what I like to call the "global trade crash." it is an ongoing phenomenon that lasted the better part of a century. Fortunately, the rapidly expanding new world republic's lands are making up for it with exotic goods production and tax income.

2rsad.png

I am... a tad bit embarassed by this. I had to slaughter all of the natives. They were wrecking my colonies, and making it next to impossible to advance into new land. I laid down a rule in which I would remove any natives that were both over 1k in population and 7 in aggression. Which is nearly all of them.

ZmYGO.png

England offers an alliance, and I happily accept.

nWXjT.png

Next idea: Patron of the Arts. I could not think of another idea I would want more, and I am trying to focus them on non-military things.

0U8iz.png

Fully expanded into the discovered lands.

sScFU.png

Our armies are nearly large enough to challenge France, but not quite yet. I had to ditch another alliance to buy more time.

BcvE9.png

What the trade crash has brought us down to. Less than half of our income is coming from trade now. On the bright side, we are still several tech levels above Europe. I have started investing wholesale into military to beat France to the next best unit.

Y3RTV.png

And here is why France is my first target. not only to they hate the basque more than Spain does, but we have a mission too! See, even the Africans agree that the Basque peoples should not be opressed! The time draws near. With 90k men in Europe, all I have to do is wait for France to become distracted against a major power. Then, strike while they are not watching our border. France has 300k manpower, while I have barely managed to pull Navarra's up to 100k. Force limits are 140. France has an army of 100k in Europe.

4qQqj.png

This is the man that will reclaim Labourd. Pretty good, except that I requested the military candidate. That is his lowest skill. Bah! Our armies in Europe are 20k inf, 5cav, 5art each. The Continental Armies are purely infantry patrols for the mainland in America, as is the Okinawa Garrison. It took about sixty years, but we finally have the necessary infrastructure to maintain a competitive edge in military capacity. Now, all we have to do is wait for a window of opportunity.

Doqnh.png

The time has come.

Great! I hope you make it before the (un)lucky cultural assimilation! What are your plans for France if it gets it's nose bloodied, make it release a bunch of minors?

As I noted in the first post, "Promote Cultural Unity" is now free, and the AI will do it. This means that there are no French minor cores within France to be released. I loath watching culturally-bound empires collapse like that, so I altered my game somewhat to prevent it.

That being said, the most I will ask of them is a province or two along the coast.

The suspense. It is killing me. Or rather, the want to see more of this AAR is killing me.

OPERATION EXODUS: Chapter 8

2f057.png

Following a declaration of war, our armies - alongside Castille, Portugal, Austria, Milan, and England - storm across the borders into France. Sieges are quickly set up, and the French dare not attempt to engage.

Ce74R.png

Here you can see the sheer numbers involved on the other side of the war. France really stands no chance.

tt8IE.png

The sieges end within a year. No battles thus far.

0Fr6E.png

Our first fight ends with a glorious rout! Such is the value of teamwork, although I am certain we could have taken them down ourselves.

vOpfP.png

A few more provinces are claimed, and we make it as far north as Anjou without losing very many men at all. A few more battles are fought alongside Castille, Milan, and Portugal. Here we can see the ancient Franks building Latin Caracole Cavalry; that is so last century!

PqsYU.png

the last major battle of the war, convincing the French that defeat is imminent and inevitable.

VJSvF.png

Victory! ours for the taking! We took Gascogne for good measure too. Now about Spain...

yeaKb.png

They too, are far below us in technology. Significantly so in land development! They being at war with France still, this might be a good time to strike, but only if we had a cassus belli...

MFutu.png

BY THE HEAVENS.

bdmXp.png

After revoking our right of way, but not theirs, we managed to catch many troops by surprise and annihilate a small army as it retreated from French forces. The armies quickly stormed southwards into Spain. The continentals marched north into Canada as Norway, our northern neighbor, is in a union under Portugal whom is allied with Castille.

ct1j4.png

The war continues on. France is starting to push the Spaniards back, and we have claimed a few provinces of our own too. Castille and Portugal are largely ignoring Navarra and going through Catalan territory to continue the march towards Paris.

O7DQs.png

The major battles first start occurring in the south, as our drive towards the capital has made it nearly impossible for new Spanish troops to march from one side of the peninsula to the other unmolested. Naturally, we come out victorious in every conflict, and even manage to annihilate an army.

xXCkN.png

The state of affairs when Toledo fell. The Portuguese and Spaniards had just started sieging our captured provinces, and France was making good progress against her enemies with Navarre and Spain out of the picture.

JCEvF.png

Our just demands.

zXWjC.png

Finally, to put the "cherry on top" so to speak, we were able to enact the statute in restraint of monopolies, which will make it easier for us to compete and try to end the trade crisis.

Navarra has defeated two of the most powerful nations on earth, claimed her rightful lands and freed the Basque people. Who now can challenge this indomitable empire?

I was thinking about the cultural assimilation of the Basque-cultured provinces to become cosmopolitaine or castillian, but I guess the question is now answered :D

Congrats about the wars (but a pity about Portugal who helped you earlier, oh well, all's fair in aars and war). Try not to take too much dirthole provinces so nobody can catch up with your stellar tech!

I usually find the castillan one flipping quickly , but it didn't in your game.
The french one has a very low chance to flip as it does not border any cosmopolitan province at game start.

OPERATION EXODUS: Chapter 9

I only played a little further before calling it quits. I achieved my initial goals, so this AAR is over. Here is the final map:

LiW1m.png

We went to war with France one more time for a core. They were being overrun again by Austria. Then I tried to war with Spain, but Europe was catching on to me and I had to peace out before they got too far. But that matters not; the Basque people have gained and kept their vast, multicultural empire, and still remain levels ahead of Europe in technology. For all intents and purposes, we have won.

My first game as an OPM, and quite possibly my favorite thus far. Now once finals are over I will have to start up another, more challenging game. Perhaps an inland OPM, such as Ulm or Salzburg. Thanks for reading!

Such is the power of Navarra that it can even move continents! Or at least peninsulas.

Would you believe that you are not the first to make that joke about that screenshot? :p

Make an AAR with Luxembourg :D

An interesting start. Vassalized by Brandenburg I believe? And a landlocked OPM to boot. I just might.

Congratulations on getting the WritAAR of the week award, Sincleric! I really love your clear goals and novel approach!

What!?
