What benefits are there to controlling the various orders besides deciding when and where to crusade? The things you might be able to do are obvious if you control the papacy, but a bit murkier as far as the orders. I guess knowing which orders are going to be in the game would help too (i think i read that only 4 were going to be in it but i cant remember). Will you be able to use the orders as a vassal, or i guess more accurately as a mercenary force?

Technically the major military-monastic orders were under the ultimate direction of the Pope and were not subject to the laws etc. of the realm they were in. They had a great deal of autonomy because the Pope left the running of the orders to the Grand Masters.

Now how you control them in the game is a matter of much conjecture - until Greven gives us more clues - hint.:)

Maybe make them into the event? I mean that way, there could still be 8 orders. But you can make Fraiars for example. Or What was the order that was created in 13th century, I forgot. Anyway, maybe, u could invest in to them and get much of the prestiage, and if u snub them, u lose some of prestiage. You could even decide what order u prefer in ur country (If it is in 17 century, I would prefer Jesuits but u can not have everything:D )

Will the player be limited to the interaction between the existing 8 orders or will they be able to create new ones thereby increasing relations with the papacy and even reducing relations with existing orders. If I felt overly benevolent ( a very rare occurance )...I could fund the creation of a new order...cede some land to the church or whatever and have a stable region witin my realm....but perhaps alienating other orders for doing this. The precedence is set to do many things in this era but will the player be limited to interact only with the established ones that were historical....This is where I and the die hard EU fans diverge...since we are changing history in game why do we limit ourselves to the events of history that applied to only that timeline...( in EU terms...a ToT event though Spain and Portugal are only tiny ineffectual Catholic nations ) I realize some things may have to be hardcoded to aid gameplay but it will be my hope that this would be kept to a bare minimum...The more choices for the player the better...the more reactions the computer has to make because of actions/influence by the player...the better..

I cant believe I just went off topic in my own post...
