Hmmm,
I was just wondering if you felt the orthadox realms seemed to be a bit lacking in terms of religious input. I don't see the point in creating diocese bishops as they cannot become popes, I get no crusading bonus for wacking pagans and it seems to limit traits that I have access to. Would it be possible to mod in a "Patriach" to function as pope for the orthodox regions. A patriachal controller based in Byzantium seems historically reasonable.

Creating bishoprics is always useful as they provide piety bonus and piety removes BB. I'll admit I don't know the first thing about ortodox christianity, but was ther ever such a time where all orthodox chrisitans answered to one religious authority?

Yes and no. In the Middle Ages the Patriarch of Constantinople was often considered to be the 'leading' patriarch in the Eastern church, but that wasn't always true, and there were still the patriarchates in Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria to contend with. The Byzantine Emperor had more direct control over the Patriarch than, say, the HRE usually had over the Pope, and so the Patriarch's prestige might have suffered. An important thing to consider is that as the Arabs expanded, the other patriarchates fell under Muslim rule, so that the Patriarch of Constantinople was the only one who headed a church that was directed by a Christian government, but the churches in the other regions continued (and still continue -- the modern Coptic church is descended from the Monothelete church of Constantinople). Pretty complicated issue, but no, I'd have to say that the Patriarch never had anything like the prestige or power of the pope, and there's no need for a 'patriarch controller,' as I think that would de facto revert to the Byzantine Emperor as part of his original job description.

It would help to start with resolving bugs that make the game not stick with the design intention. According to them the king would gain piety from his diocese bishop, but as it is courtiers don't get any monthly piety or prestige thus making the feature non-existant.

One use for the bishops still remains for Orthodoxes, they have higher chance to become a bishop should a bishop die. Convenient when you have a 3rd son you want to stick to a monastery to avoid prestige penalties.

cant we just mode the game to make the diosece bishop of byzantium into the patriarch? and make all ortodox bisoprics, or at least inside the empire of Byzantium possible to be elected as the patriach, election should be related more to skills then size of bishopric. Some events could be added to make the patriach come more forth in the game. could any of this be done?

You can't mod that stuff, it's in the .exe

I always thought that there needs to be some Orthodox-specific events and interactions

Well go and post your ideas in the mod forum, if they are good, and if there is time, they may end up in an official patch, several of them did in this one. :)

Events are all modable, they are in the events files. :)

Well, of course Orthodox states are lacking in many options. However the game is centred around Catholic Europe. I'm thankful that the Orhodox states weren't given the chop entirely like the Muslim ones.

And it seems entirely possible to code patriarch events for the Bzyantine Diocese Bishop... (except for elections and everything succesion-related).

I just thought of an event to ask Russian princes to bow to Const. Patriarch in religious matters, but...uhm...what if they accept ?
Another - persuade maybe Hungarian King to accept orthodoxy ? What for ? In rl world that would shift the balance of power somewhat, in CK world it just doesn't matter.

Let's go to the mod forum then... ;)

Right :)

Perhaps make it similar to Knights of Honor in that the Byzantines have a patriarch but other Orthodox factions can break away from the Patriarch of Constantinople?

actually the Byzantine patriarch was appointed by the Emperor, much like it is in the game. it would be nice though to have some events about the orthodox diocese bishops and their apointment/displacement.

and btw is incorrect to say that the Byzantine patriarch was the only one left in christian lands. Bulgaria and Serbia had patriarchs in CK timeframe

You can mod things in the exe! Just look what DivineShadow does...maybe he could do something about this one too?

I have been looking at the exe myself. Some of its not all that complicated with a good hex editor, lot of unreadble stuff but some very clear indications of what certain values do.
