well i down loaded the stony road game...very good events and stuff...but i must be doing something really really wrong...as ger my ass gets kicked by poland, in one battle it started with 8 vs 8 division plain to plain no rivers...by the end off the battle i had thrown in 19 division of reemforcement...everything i had was of better quality then poland and i lost in fact i lost almost all my battles and to add to it england land in keil with 9 division wow eveytime i have try it i loose big time ouch my ego isnt doing so well...diffrent stratages difrent units and builds..still i loose..i must suck....i love the "realizm" and changes they made but not much realizm when u cant even beat poland (best time so far for poland was 9 weeks, but england was marching on berlin)...realizm??????

i think i will be stickin with good old HOI DD until my ego recovers..and i figure out how to make the changes i like to the normal game....lol.....bu tover all it is a very good mod i like it alot.

Increased realism is certainly part of the HSR brief, mike, but in large part this translates into making things harder for Germany. Basically you have to ditch most of your treasured HoI strategies and rework your approach from square one. Believe me, you're not the first to have your head handed to you by the Poles - Oh, the stories I could tell!

ya u r right...it was kind of fun having my head handed to me.....but dont get me wrong it is a great mod....i really like what they did just wasnt expecting the hardness well not at first have to be really defensive in all areas.

plus i plan on stripping the things i like and putting them into my atl. realtiy mod really like the events they did and changes to brigades and division have to figure ou how they made heavy infantry like to add those for sure.

Heh, I have played the old HSR for HOI2, and I was extremely annoyed that after leading Yugoslavia and conquering almost entire southern, and some of the central Soviet Union (don't ask how ), Germany had some agreement with them (I think it was Soviet Union surrendering) and I had lost everything straight back to Romania .

Also playing Germany first time with STONY ROAD for DD
It is so fun when some of that events fired ... like that Elite troops or that greece and Spain will not be puppet and you have to set them free or remain conquered.

So with all skill (already have won DD 1.2 with Germany AND conquered whole world in 1951 ... yes I know I am slow :-/ ) but now with STONY ROAD it is so much more fun. I love my elite troops and care for them and now in December 1943 I am in front of North Moscow (Formed Scandinavia and Finland are allies) , but only have 50 recruits left (but now it is Winter and I stopped all battles, so hope I could recover to 300 or so, for next year losses) ... even I am North of Moscow (12 SS Panzer with Rommel (already has 9 traits !!! but still skill 3) Russia has still around 400 (!!!) divisions (already destroyed around 150 with some "Kesselschlachten" and my 12 Tactical Bombers) .... I have around 200 Divisions (Allies are Portugal, Nationalist Spain (they joined, after I have destroyed Rep.Span, as they have won against Nationalist Spain, waited one year after they have been dow from GB, because they had Gibraltar), Italy (no more Africa provinces but strong defense position), Scandinavia (Puppet), Finland, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Latvia(Puppet) and Lithuania(Puppet) and Argentinia ... still conquered, parts of Yugoslavia, Greece, Free France (Vichy France +200 didn't want to join, as they have allies). At every coast there are 3 divisions defending it but at the first DD Allies broken through the lines with 9 divisions (3x3) but they lost their reinforcements as I had 12 Naval Bombers sunk their transporters
It was close, as at the same time Russia made a big attack, and DOW Germany, BUT THEY ARE ALSO IN WAR WITH ALLIES ??? since 1942 ...

so will see if I could push them back to get the half annexiation of russia event, if it is included. But south front is still at the borders of Romania and Hungary :-( Center just "Surrounded 100 Divisions" before Winter, so Russian couldn't really make a counterstrike.

The game is a lot more fun that way and I like the events and somehow a little bit the feeling there is a crazy Fuehrer in the back, who chases you (4 years left, than Germany is a Democracy again

I really like the HSR mod too, Im now in my second game, the first I lost because I got bogged down in Poland and the France and UK simultanously invaded me and I couldnt take back my frozen provinces.

It's now Feb 1944 and I've reached the Urals with the soviets mostly destroyed (about 150 divs left), they are still holding Finnland though. My Allies are Italy, Nat Spain, Japan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Norway (Puppet) and Argentina, all of Africa is lost and the UK has repeatedly tried to invade southern Spain and stills has troops there which Im holding off with Nat Spain's divisions and some of my infantry. Im now afraid of allied invasion of Italy since the USA has strong forces in Africa.

When attacking the Soviets you really have to take advantage of the bonus you get in 1941 by the Barbarossa-Event, your Panzers will just punch through every Soviet formation, encircle as much as possible. This works best in the southern plains. Try to take Moscow and Leningrad in 1941 because in 1942 the Soviets wil be MUCH stronger and also when you have Moscow encircled take it quickly because they will stockpille massive amounts of troops there.

When invading Poland, just drive your tanks to their VP provinces as fast as possible, avoiding strongholds you can beat them in 20 days or so, probably faster.

You also need better defenses on the coasts, and keep some divisions in France incase the UK manages to get a bridgehead.

Im playing on Normal/Normal, on Very Hard/furious that "the mod is designed for" I probably wouldnt even beat Poland lol.

One problem you maybe having is attacking during the Winter.

I have found that I can only really make an offensive between May and October, after that I settle in and wait.

Usually I will paln my new units to be up and ready by April and decide where in the line I will attempt that springs new breakthrough.

Further South in Africa and the Mideast it's not a problem.

My biigest problem is getting the countries I liberated to quit giving me thier crappy troops and free load off my supplies.

Make sure your're not playing on GROFAZ. For some reason it's set as default in 2.08.

I had the same problem in Norway, i wasnt expecting the British to take Narvik. First game as Germany with HSR. Now, most of the time, i just do 2 amphibious invasions at the same time to Narvik and Oslo, quickly annexing. But now there was a third VP, and i was too late with Narvik, they now have 9 divisions there. I have loads units on both sides, and the Kriegsmarine also giving support, but i just cant take Narvik!
Then they retook Oslo, and well. I screwed up Norway, now it's August and i still dont have it.
Also, Grofaz is default. That will make the game IMPOSSIBLE.
