C.O.R.E seems like a great mod and I'm thinking about installing it. There is, however, one specific question I'd like to see answered first.

I like playing minor countries without much importance for the major turn of events in world politics. My ambition is to make up the scientific/industrial/military strategy in the pre-war years, awaiting the big one, with history not necessarily deviating from the actual turn of events.

Something that has bothered me in the unmodded set up though, is that major war almost invariably breaks out following the Czech crisis. That is, either in 1938 or in March 1939 at the latest.
Thus there is really never any WWII in HoI.

Considering the C.O.R.E:s ambition about historicity, I wonder if a typical scenario leading up to a historical WWII is a more common occurence?

Thanks! :)

C.O.R.E. 0.1 does not significantly modify the Anschluss, Sudetenland and Danzig events each of which has at least one ahistorical choice with a chance of approx 5% that this is picked. Hence you should see a majority of games progressing along historical lines but there is a 1 in 20 chance at each critical junction that an ahistorical choice is picked by the AI.

This is IMHO one of HOI's great strengths as it introduces a small element of uncertainty and increase re-playability. C.O.R.E. will not remove the ahistorical choices and if this bothers you then you have 2 choices:

- Save the game some time before each critical date. Reload if the outcome does not fit with your desire.

- Modify the events yourself.

For any further questions can I suggest using the Discussion thread here.

But not in 0.1...

It could be interesting topic though - you see, as we add more events to the mod , the chance that something important will go unhistorically is growing... On the other hand, the effects of one unhistorical choice are "smoothed" by other, historical ones.

There are some critical ones though - events that could potentially make game totally unplayable. US with to low warentry to join allies, Japan choosing left wing government, Germany backing off in Sudeten Crisis and later... For 0.3 I suggest creating a tread for dealing with alternative chains of events AFTER ahistorical choice.

And of course tread "I had strangest game of CORE..." would be fun. :D

That one is "fixed" in 0.2 with the Marco Polo Bridge incident :D mostly because the election sometimes didn't happen rather than with the "wrong" choice being picked. There's a balance to be found, some people like the 1/20 games that go differently (and MPBI makes that almost impossible) while others want historical progression every time. I think most frustration probably comes from first-time players who got one of those 1/20 hits or those who play Poland, China etc and find themselves not coming under attack.

Maybe we should have an "Option Pack", basically just a self-extracting zip that replaces a few files and removes the B choice (so that it would always be war over Danzig, always war in China, always Anscluss of Austria and so on) in key events with an "Uninstaller" that just restores the full events again.

About the alternate history events (ie what happens if Germany backs down over Danzig etc) I definitely agree, we need to have something to fill the emptiness once the usual event chain is derailed. It might be speculative, but something is better than nothing :D
