So i've seen some pretty convincing posts about tanks being the wrath of god weapon of AoD, that will put any nation to it's knees. Well, let's test it shall we. I'll pick a country, build only tanks to use in attacks, and see how it goes.

Now for this game i think i'll choose the Soviet Union, as they always have troubles against germany being what they are. Especially now in AoD as Germany is horribly overpowered.

My goal will be nothing less than total world domination, no allies, no puppets no nothing.

First things first, setting the right kind of research to suit me on this AAR.
It will be naturally tank/brigade heavy, with only one spot reserved for infantry, and that's motorized research.

Next up is cutting out the useless part of the armed forces, and that means everything that's not tank, motorized inf or HQ. That's 116 divisions in total.

That might look like a lot, but i'll soon have dozens of tank divisions, so no fear. This also means, that as tanks take more time to build than infantry, i'll have to adjust my IC whoring accordingly. Only 2 or 3 series of factories so that i can manage to build enough interceptors and tanks to hold the gerries long enough, and start offensives when the time is right.

Winter war with Finland:

The initial battles are a massacre. The Finns are pushed aside in Joensuu, Kajaani and Petsamo. The battles are as fast now as they used to be in old Arma with regular infantry. None of the penalties seem to mean anything as the Soviet armor sweeps across the Finnish frontiers.

The Endgame:

I got the end of winterwar event in less than a week from beginning the war, and this is what it looks like a week later.

If the war against germany goes like this, i'll have nothing to worry about.

Try taking Persia and puppetting it. I know you don't want to pupett but you'll get a ton of oil from it.

Your mission for Barbarossa: reach the Channel coast in three months :p

Finland went down pretty fast for a Winter War...

I still dont think you have the oil needed to support all that, Baku isn't THAT good an oilfield. If you manage to hold ukraine and have synthetic plants, though...
Baku is pretty nice, when you max out INFRA and build a bunch of factories.

Baku had 170 million barels a year back then, thats 4x the needs of all Germany (44 million barels), so.. SU should have no problem whatsover with oil. Though..maybe 1000 tank divisions might be enough :p
Very good AAR idea!

Unfortunately i didn't quite get enough divisions for barbarossa, and Germany won every battle, so here we are. I dont understand how russia of all nations on earth can't build more than ~50 divisions of tank when barbarossa begins. Perhaps i should have skipped the IC whoring part, and invaded someone instead.

IC whoring does take some time to pay off. If you did the math I wouldn't be surprised to read you have actually lost a large number of IC.days which could have been invested in unit production from the get-go. Maybe the first round of factories can pay off for itself but probably not more.

Yeah, i'm replaying, and this is what i've got now:

It's going to be a large front for the japanese, and i have about equal level of org, not to mention most of Manchu is empty, so i shouldn't have any problems invading the japs for some org. Doubt i'll be able to attack the japanese mainland itself though.

I got to about Beijing, until my advance bogged down too much to continue, but this pretty much proves, that the tanks are overpowered, but it also proved that the battle system in general also needs a lot of work on it. The battles just take too long, and bigger defensive stacks are too hard to beat as it is now.

Not too convincing AAR's. You got crushed by the germans, then next time, you got bogged down against the japs. Seems you might need some infantry after all.

Soviet tanks-only AAR? Sounds like a challenge!
Maybe I should... :D

Very true. Even with the IC of Soviet Union, you need some infantry to fill in those empty spots.

I think i've found the right mix here, and this is the result.
