PDS is happy to present:
My name is: Fredrik Zetterman
My forum nick is: Tegus
At Paradox development studio I work as: Lead Engine Programmer
So what do I do, really – what does that mean? I work with our core tech and not on a specific project (except sometimes, when they need some extra manpower). I try to see further into our future than the next deadline and see our needs for the next coming projects - something the people that are working on specific projects not always have the luxury to think about.
I have worked on: Victoria II and Crusader Kings II are the projects I've been most involved with, but I've done some minor things in EU3/EUIV/HOI3/Sengoku/MotE as well
Right now I´m working on: Can't say :) Unless you buy me a beer, then I'll talk... but I cannot promise I will talk about stuff you want to hear about ;)
Little known fact about a PDS game: There's a debug command in most of our games called "forcecrash" - you should try it out sometime! ;)
My best game ever and why I like it: Games with Italian plumbers and/or elves in green-clad clothes wielding swords are probably the best games ever created. Bonus points if both are present!
My hobbies include: Boardgames, playing video games, playing PC games and coding... c'mon, there's a reason why I work where I do :) Oh, and I like cooking as well... and eating delicious food!
If I was a game character, I would be: Fredrik Zetterman, from Crusader Kings II. He's got such an awesome name.
I have decorated my desk with: A pokéball remodelled into a Polandball. Polandball is best ball... except for Swedenball.
My super power is: Getting everyone at the office to play Android: Netrunner. Ok, the correct term for this superpower might be called "nagging on people until their ears fall off". Seems to be working though!

The second picture has obviously been photoshopped, where's his programmer beard?

So you have a dream job and you have people to play Netrunner with? I'm so jelly right now.

We are something like 8 or more people playing netrunner at the office now I think. Its a pretty good game although Tegus cheats a lot and wins.

I'm actually a bit confused by your job. What is it that you actually do? I've obviously never made a game (since I don't know what a engine programmer is - do you design the new systems, like Clausewitz?), so I don't understand everyone's jobs when it comes to making a game, but I'm curious as to what you've specifically done for Victoria 2 (still my favorite Paradox game). Also I hope that secret project your working on is Victoria 3! Merry Christmas!

What does the Zetter in Zetterman mean?

I'm not sure, actually. If I google it, it most likely is dereived from the word 'säter' which in turn could be related to http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sätesgård or http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fäbod or mean 'a far away pasture'. Or it could come from a town in Sweden called something that ends in '-säter/-sätra'.

Unless I actually do some research about my relatives to see when and where they adopted the name, I probably won't find out the exact meaning.

It means that I work as a coder but I don't work on a specific project, but more with lower-level systems. For example, one of the things I've made as an engine programmer is to replace a third-party animation system with our own in-house version. Since all our games use the animation system, it can be considered part of the 'engine'.

In general, systems that are shared between projects are what I program on.

As for Victoria II, I worked on it as a general programmer(on that project only). I did a bit of everything(interfaces, AI, some market stuff(quite unavoidable in that title), the generic country name system, optimizations etc), but I haven't really done much work on the expansions.

Mycket som Sverige! Bra jobbat! Hejssan i Sverige! Mer spel, tack!

It seems they are working on a new game... any idea when we'll get an announcement?

christmas of course, why would they celebrate advent otherwise? You don't think that they do because it is dark in Sweden, don't you :D

Ridiculously photogenic grand strategy game engine developer, we found him.

I don't know... We live in the photoshop era, probably only the moustache is real. :-x

Unfortunately not around Christmas,
there will most likely be some announcements at Paradox Interactive Convention in the end of January 2014.

So no Holiday Gift announcements, so sorry!!!
