Hey everyone!

Interview with Johan live at IncGamers, enjoy :)

Paradox Development Studio Q&A: Johan Andersson talks grand strategy at IncGamers
"If you’ve played a game in the last decade or so where the majority of your time was spent staring at a large map and plotting devious things, chances are that game was made by Paradox Development Studio. Previously part of the umbrella of ‘Paradox Interactive,’ the studio became a separate entity in 2012, just prior to the release of the world’s finest medieval soap opera simulator Crusader Kings II.

With the success of Europa Universalis IV following hot on Crusader Kings II’s heels, Paradox Development Studio have brought grand strategy gaming to a wider audience than ever before. IncGamers sent over some questions to studio manager Johan Andersson to find out how this breakthrough was achieved, how long-time fans have taken to the changes and what the future holds for accessible-yet-complex grand strategy gaming."

Three is quite a lot of new games to be working on as well as CK2 and EU4 content, I would be very surprised if the 3rd is more than sketches on napkins level at the moment.

They have separate teams working on their own separate projects, the days of one team only are over... So that CK2 and EUIV is being worked on doesn't affect the development process of the other projects.

Well they said not a long time ago they had five separate teams, so that means two for CK2 and EUIV, and three teams on the new games...

Since EvW is developed by an external team I wouldn't count it in the three new ones.

(sadly I suppose that means we won't get any dlc/further development for MotE since if I recall correctly it was developed by one of the PDS teams).

HOI4 is imo the most probable, it's been 4 years since the release (in comparison V2 dates only from 2011) and it's the franchise that needs an overhaul the most, if we imagine that from the announcement we'll have to wait at least for a year and a half (two years to be safe) having HOI4 published in 2015 would give the same time length between episodes than for EUIV.

Yeah I would say one year maybe one and a half. After all EU4 did release one year after it was announced.

It would be great if they contacted Bethesda and made a strategy game together about Tamriel or Fallout america. Or Games of Thrones producers, but that wouldn't be that amazing, their show is utter madness, even teletubbies made more sense that that.

Nice interview! Thanks!

i wonder if they plan to retry buying homeworld ip after these successes

Homeworld belongs to Gearbox now, and they are currently working on a re-release of Homeworld, so chances are, they are going to revive the IP and are doing that to gauge and increase interest in the franchise.

I don't see them giving it up any time soon.

It's too bad, really. I have no trust in Gearbox as a developer and Paradox would have been a better place for Homeworld, but oh well, gotta deal with it :)
