And yet we spend a lot of our time in those games waging war , wheather a defencive or offencive ones , every 10 years in game seems to involve a war of some sort , and the only reliable way to gain land is also war , aside from colonization in EU4 and inheritance cluster mess in CK2/3 , aside from that we can't simply avoide the shallow repetitive boring cat and mouse game in wars , and I know those games are grand strategy not RTSs , but seriously what can we do other than organizing armies and chase the enemy or tediously carpet sieging everything ? where is the strategy here ? warfare is really really shallow , Vic3 is the ultimate sin in this regard , and I'm only speaking out of love for those games as I belive they can be much better , cuz everything else is masterful and very well done , in EU4 , CK3 , HOI4 and VIC3 , all are masterful strategy games worthy only of intuitive players , but for the love of jesus , make war better as it's the only major mechanic that is shallow and tedious.

I think the biggest problem is how many provinces there are now combined with the free military access. Units are just wandering all over the world. It was even worse before they introduced the admittedly janky fort ZOC system.

My biggest asks for EU5 are:
  • A real coalition/balance of power system.
  • No more easy mil access.
  • A guerilla warfare system that allows minor powers to make invading them costly under the right circumstances (Skanderbeg, Vlad the Impaler, Ming vs its various border states, etc.).
  • A "division designer" of some sort to differentiate different modes of warfare in different regions from one another. (e.g. France's 1450 "divisions" would be heavy cavalry supported by crossbowmen and infantry, England's would be longbowmen supported by infantry and cavalry, Ottomans would be early gunpowder supported by infantry and light cavalry, etc.).

We can see the warfare system having a very solid base , it's shallow yes but not stupid , it's like a large well made canvas but with nothing on it , more depth is really needed and it will be truley masterful.
