It's hard to find 4-5 people who can all set aside several evenings a week. Reserving only one night doesn't necessary limit play to that night, but it's a base.

What I can't understand is why one cannot make a straight deal with dependable players on VNet.

Like:
A: would you like to play?
B: sure. I'll host
(1 hour later)
B: I'll have to go now
A: OK. How about tomorrow?
B: I can't. The day after tomorrow same time?
A: Great. Deal.

In RL I saw this just once with the VNet players (and in that case the resumed game was quickly dumped the day after). In almost every other case, ppl just quit and ignore any suggestion about continued play.

I don't think VNet as such is the problem. It's more the player quality/morale IMO. That's why I'd like organised players like those at PA to use VNet too sometimes (saw you yesterday, Vissarion).

Yes we (the group I'm in with Andrew) usually meet up in v.net (and we're not organizing through PA).

i think why many of the players in vnet are unreliable is because they just see the multiplayer option, and decide to try it without any further ambitions. Also a lot of them seem to be young folks that obviously aren't set for several hours several nights a week of commited play.

Using fora such as this or the PA seems to be the best way to organize, you meet people who actually put in a little effort to set up a lasting game.

I must say that I have had a couple of good vnet games, like the one yesterday.

i agree that is why people turn to the PA.

if the people at the PA had faith in the games organized in vnet there would be no PA. if you have problems committing, then you could simply sub in PA games when you feel like it, and perhaps PA games could leave an extra spot open for reliable non-cheaters from vnet to join on occasion as casual players.

Still struggling with my router, I would like to repost my suggestion in a modified version:

-create a testfacility on VNet that can be used to test your communication with.

Ie. not an actual game, but a facility that will test your connection by trying to send the kind of communication that you will need in the game. Simply by sending one type of communication at a time. Eg. 'now testing xxxfacility, sending to port yyyyy'. The player can then verify on his local IP if that data is forwarded correctly or not.

Such a method would drastically cut down on the search & hunt for reasons why the forwarding is not working.

As it is today, you have to shoot in the dark and examine all kinds of possible router features because Paradox can apparantly not provide a complete list of communication needs of their games. What players have achieved so far is mostly based on their trial and error and posts here on the forum.

So please, would it not be possible to establish such a testplatform? I can't imagine it would be that much work?
