I have just bought EU2 and, being an EU-fan since its first version, I had high expectations of again getting engrossed with building an empire. I installed EU2 without any complications (version 1.00, Nordic version) but when I tried to install the 1.04 patch for the Nordic version, it keeps telling me that I have not installed EU2. I can not see where I go wrong. I have a clean new installation of EU2 version 1.00 and I try to install the patch from the same folder as EU2.exe. "Standard procedure!" Help me - what am I doing wrongly??

I would like to play with you. I believe that I have the right version of the patch (Nordic) since I bought it in Stockholm. Perhaps I should also mention that I am using Windows 2000. I have never experienced problems (although active computer gamer/user for about 10 years by now) with installing patches before so it is a bit of a surprise. Sometimes one needs to be very careful that one has clean new installation of the programme but that's about it. As I mentioned, this is a completely new installation. I did not have EU1 (or EU2) on this computer.

Nordic version is 1.02. If you have 1.00 you have the NA version distributed by Strategy First.

Sorry - I am at work and not at home. I have therefore mixed up the versions. Anyhow, I have bought the official version of EU2 by Paradox/Vision Park for the full price (hum!) from a downtown shop. The way I see it, if one has bought EU1 then it should be possible to get a discounted price on its sequel EU2. But that is another matter!

Mikael, I also use Win2000 in my office, but I have italian version
that starts with 1.04 version ( so I didn't patched it ), but 2 months ago, when italian version wasn't, I played with an american
version of EU2 that started with 1.00. So, I downloaded the patches but the first i applied didn't work ( like you, the pc told me that EU2 wasn't installed ). I tried to apply the other patches and all was fine.
I hope you enjoy these wonderful game !!
let me know how I can contact yoy when you acquire experience to play !
Good luck !

the Nordic version is published by Vision Park and it should be 1.02 IIRC (I would have to check mine). The North American version was 1.00 and is published by Strategy First.

I'll install my retail copy tonight to see if the patch installs ok and I will verify what version it is.

About full/discounted price... Well, how many companies do offer this? :) Not many. In fact, none so far, unless it is an expension pack or unless the publisher gives you a coupon for a future purchase of any game they make (EA and Activision do this some times).

Viper of Arabia, I have checked at home and I do have version 1.02 - The Nordic version. I tried to reinstall and this time from several different folders in the root and my zip-unit. Not that it should work better but one can always try. It still does not work so I have run out of ideas. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions??

About offering new versions at a discounted rate for emperors with EU1 - well I do know that very few companies offer new versions at discounted prices (as you mention some have coupons in their boxes). Still I feel that faithful customers ought to be rewarded somehow. Where I buy my computer games, I get a discount after buying a certain number of packages and I think that helps this particular shop to get more customers ... or at least more "loyal" customers. But I am aware that the (economic) margins of most of the game producers are very limited. Anyhow, EU1 was a great game and I hope that the sequel will be worth the upgrade when I finally get it to work.

Some version have problems with copy protection so try uninstalling completely the game following these instructions:

and then try the installation with this method:

Discounts are usually offered by the publisher or by the retail store (often you get a rebate if you buy from the on-line store of the publisher). Write your ideas to the publisher, who knows, they might listen :D . Paradox does not fix the price at wich the game is sold. I suppose they get a percentage of the price, but they're not the one saying "sell it for 40$ or sell it for 80$".

The patch is now working. I decided to make major overhaul of computer. I reformat the entire hard disk and reinstalled the most important programs. The program and patch works is now working perfectly, and I am enjoying a good albeit difficult game.

cool !
