(1.4.11.1) Minor fix:
* In continued support of Magicka and the new Big Picture mode we've greased some of the machinery and among other small Big Picture fixes and adjustments, we updated the Manual (IP-address) connection dialogue to work with the Daisy Wheel (Big Picture's gamepad keyboard).

(1.4.11.0) Magicka now gets full controller support for Steam's upcoming Big Picture mode.
* Players can now access the steam-overlay with a gamepad and type text with the new "DaisyWheel" in Big Picture mode.
* The SteamStore, Facebook and Twitter-buttons visible in all menus can now be navigated with a gamepad.
* An icon has been added to players in the pre-game lobby to illustrate what controller they use.

Like shablam.

What is Steam's "Big Picture Mode"?

Found it here: http://store.steampowered.com/bigpicture/
I guess that's cool for people who still have TVs but haven't most people moved away from that? If I want "Big Screen" I'llplug my projector into my computer like I do when watching movies. Ten foot screen is nice but then the resolution is limited to 1280x1024.
If it brings more people to Magicka it will be worth it but actually it will probablyh have the reverse affect; people will play in their living rooms with friends and we'll see less games on Magicka. :(

I don't think people will disappear from their computers at all due to Big Picture mode, and this does make Magicka playable IN that mode in any case.

Big Picture is awesome, imho. Use whatever monitor you like - for me it's just a way to control Steam and some of its games seamlessly using only a gamepad. If that's in front of my desktop or in the couch using my laptop and TV-out, I don't really care. It's sweet and gives Steam a much needed modern looking interface.

There will always be a communal viewing screen in the average family's home. Maybe one day the console/computer and the TV will be so closely entwined that it will no longer be a simple TV (or a smart TV) but more like a fully fledged computer, but there'll always be some incarnation of TV to consume media in front of with friends / family.

There are some games that work far better as a console style game. Those will work well in Big Picture mode. Some things are just better played from a couch.

agreed, for example, I cannot imagine playing something like super smash bros on a cpu, especially since I do not own a joystick or anything resembling a controller. However, some games are well designed for the computer, like RTSs (don't you guys make RTSs of some sort?).

hmmh it looks like that after this recent patch my maqicka client keeps crashing while trying to load adventure chapters. tried with chapters 1 and 3 and client crashes when loading bar is about half way there. my friend has same problem with different hardware. Client worked just fine yesterday

Yea -- it's Friday night now, so chances of a hotfix are slim.

Note, I am just a volunteer mod here on the forums, I have no inside information whatsoever.

Perhaps try to "verify local game content"?

Note: I'm just guessing here...

Alright, so now we've patched our patch and reverted our revertage.

Meaning, your game should now update to a working version of 1.14.11.1. If it doesn't, try restarting your Steam client. If that doesn't help, right-click Magicka in your Steam Library, select Properties, go to the Local Files tab and then hit the "Verify Integrity Of Game Cache" button.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

:D

"Yo dawg, we heard you liked patches, so we put a patch into your patch, so you can patch while patching!"

Very true... I like Big Picture too :) I'm just worried that Valve will do something crazy like remove the old-school UI and make Steam Big Picture-exclusive... because this would be the case if it were Apple.

Yeah that would be awful and something you wouldn't need to worry about. I would love for them to update their "normal" interface, but Valve would (in all probability) never go exclusively bloaty full-screen. Their main audience is PC users, after all.
