Did you even read the post I was replying to? It said "But it's resonable to ask one typical, average male portrate of each ethnic background.", which is exactly the situation I was referring to.
sure I did! that's why I talked about having same repetitive portrait!! maybe you've not tested the latest patch as Iran, but currently the situation is like what you said, means there are some Arab portraits + 1 somehow ethnic/Iranian portrait! so here the point is one is not enough! because I and as you see above also other players don't even want to use Arab faced generals, so there will be only that one non-Arab remained. but for how many divisions can we use that 1 portrait?! creates BAD VIEW and gets boring too.

I really prefer to have the same portraits as Turkey! at least that's more logical.

I think they should use South American portraits for Iran because they look like Iranians

Why are you all talking like Arabs and Persians look completely different? Sure we have our differences but they are minor. It’s not like they used Northern Europeans or Black African portraits for Iran

not at all! Arab and Iranian culture have nothing in common! specially when we are talking about cloth! Iran has different cultures like Persian, Turks, ... but non of them wear cloth similar to Arab! Arabian clothes are totally different! everyone knows this! Iranians wear normal clothes like Jeans, T shirts, ... like Turkey and every other ordinary countries!

indeed the portrait group which I'm talking about, is used in different countries, yeah some south American countries has that too.

as far as I've checked countries, the most appropriate portrait preset for Iran is this one:
bs.png

portrait presets of Hungary, Romania and Portugal all can be used for Iran. specially Portugal which has closest faces to Iranians.

So Arab Countries are no ordinary countries? Do you think we Arabs don't wear t shirts and jeans? Arabs wear jeans, T-shirts, and modern clothing in daily life just like any other ethnicity (*) and we occasionally wear traditional clothes and its the same in Iran so i don't get your point really.

And what exactly is bothering you because the Arab generals are wearing suits and ties. Dont get me wrong, to have accurate generic Iranian generals would be nice of course but to claim that Persians and Arabs are like day and night is objectively just wrong and to have south American generals would be even more inaccurate for Iran than Arab generals. At least Iran has an Arab population so you could justify the Arab generals that way.

(*) exception are the gulf Countries, they mostly wear traditional clothes

seems you don't know what we are talking about and just talking out of topic! here we are not talking about what Arabs wear and what they don't! we are talking about the Arab presets for Iranian generals! don't try to make discussion complicated and don't misdirect the subject!
Arab cloth is just perfect for Arab people! not for non-Arabs!

and you even don't get it when we talk about south American! the designers have not created exactly faces related to every region! it's not that much precision in designs! they are just some common portrait used for several countries in different locations! so you don't need to worry about continents!
everything is so simple; Are Iranians Arab? the answer is NO THEY ARE NOT so it's meaningless to set Arabian cloth for Iranians! that's all

you did start to talk about clothes, i just responded to that.

You don't seem to understand what i have written.

I would be happy to have more generic Iranian generals so that Iran don't need to use the Arab preset anymore but i am against using south American or even worse European generals for Iran. I don't think i need to explain why

so what if we talk about cloth? how you can say Arab and Iranian cloth have anything in common? no country on earth has similarity to Arabs in cloth! and we are talking about Arabian cloth don't play with words like Arabs wear other things! ARAB CLOTH!
Iranians has nothing common with Arab people, not cloth, not music, not foods, they are 2 different cultures. we don't say one is better, just saying they are totally different. UNDERSTAND IT!

read twice what I wrote about south America, there is nothing named south America portraits! most of those pics are used on other countries and continents like Romania, Hungary, Turkey,.... you still think they are created specialized to every country/continent! then I have nothing to say to you!
Good luck!

why are you so emotional? You are putting words in my mouth.

This discussion is pointless. i am sure the devs would never add South American or European presets for Iran, but if you are lucky, they might add more Persian generals, though I'm sure that would take years, as always with Paradox

after explaining for you twice, you still don't get what does that mean when we talk about a country portrait! it's not gen specialized pics they are common pics used for many regions, when we say it that way, it's just addressing! but you just come and repeat it again about continents! :)
instead of putting all your energy on this subject, you can ask devs to add your country too.

you just like to make the water muddy! that's your goal!
OK consider you are right!

I went back and played some Afghanistan again, so I can better understand it.

First, I'll say I was wrong about two things:

A) It is possible to make Italy give you an off-map factory with "Look to Other Partners" without being Fascist. You can do this in one reasonable and one unreasonable way. The reasonable way is with the "Visit Foreign Capitals" focus, which gives you diplomacy bonus to all major nations. I didn't realize this because the first time I took this path, I was trying to avoid getting getting Democracy ideology at this point in the game. The unreasonable way is the "Anti-Soviet Cooperation" focus. This focus is only really available in 1939, which is way too late to be starting to develop your economy.

B) "Establish Naval Bases" actually does give you one Naval Base. It just doesn't show up in the focus description until you have a coastal province. But having multiple coastal provinces does not make multiple Naval Bases. I still think this is a bad focus, but I wanted to correct myself.

Now for new things I noticed:

1) The "Puppet Iran" war goal for Non-Aligned Afghanistan is still bugged. I reported this bug, but I guess it wasn't fixed. If you take the focus and play all the way through the war in one go, it WILL let you set up puppets in the peace conference. However, if you reload your save file, it WILL NOT let you set up puppets in the peace conference. This is because Non-Aligned nations normally can't set up puppets in peace conferences. I guess the "Puppet Iran" war goal sets up a flag making it so Non-Aligned Iran CAN do this, and the flag does not get set up again when reloading a save file. However, the entire restriction that Non-Aligned governments can't set up puppets in a peace conference is stupid because you can just release a nation as a puppet after the peace conference, anyway!

2) The "Kabul Conference" focus is bugged. After you peace out with one peace conference, it becomes impossible to use this anymore. For instance, if you use "Kabul Conference" to discount provinces in a war against the USSR, you are locked out of using it to discount provinces in a war against the Allies. This seems like an obvious oversight. It's called "Not:Negotiations in progress." I guess the game never un-flags "Negotiations in progress" after the peace conference is done.

3) The puppets created by "Alliance with the Turkic People" steal 2 of your own provinces! Even if you annex them later, these provinces are no longer your cores! This is a bug, right? Because it's a huge deal!

4) Could you add some Steel to Damascus, or a "Prospect for Resources" decision for Steel in Damascus? This seems like such an oversight. I don't know if they've made steel in modern times but come on! You wanted to add more resources to Middle Eastern countries, but you're skipping over the most famous Steel-producing city in the world? Maybe it's ahistoric, but it's probably better than a lot of these other new resources you added.

5) There's another strange bug related to puppeting Iran. If you attack Iran, you will lose the Sadabaad Treaty national spirit. However, if you puppet Iran, THEY still have it even though they work for you. I guess this is okay, but it feels kinda shitty since there's no way to attack Iran without losing the Sadabaad Treaty. Leading us to...

6) I tried to provoke Iran into attacking me so that they'd lose the Sadabaad Treaty national spirit instead of me. However, this is pretty darned tricky. Even if you take all the most provocative Helmand Valley Water Authority decisions, being in the Sadabaad Treaty buffs gives them +100 diplomatic approval for you. If you cancel all military access, the non-aggression pact, cancel their market access multiple times (you can even negotiate and then cancel again - this is definitely a bug), and justify a war goal on them, you can get their opinion of you down to -24. If you then delete your entire army, Iran will... NOT go to war with you. WHAT?!

6)a] For some reason, the opinion debuff for justifying a war goal goes away after a few days, even if you keep justifying. This has got to be a bug.

6)b] Like I said, you can stack the opinion debuffs for cancelling market access multiple times. This seems like an exploit.

6)c] In my mind, if you want to keep the Sadabaad Treaty, you should be able to provoke them into attacking you (without deleting your entire army or using exploits) with the Helmand Valley Water Authority decisions, then puppet them. As they are your puppet, and you're a member of the Treaty, the new puppet should also benefit from the Treaty. OR maybe there can be a way to enter into the Treaty later or stall it or something. Afghanistan needs every advantage it can get, after all.

7) "Strengthen Confederation" gives you cores on the areas of Balochistan in India. However, even if you have Sistan, which is a core of Balochistan, it will not be added as a core. I tried attacking Iran, releasing Balochistan as a puppet in Sistan, doing "Future of Balochistan" to get North Balochistan and South Balochistan, returning their territory to my Balochistan puppet, and then integrating the puppet after doing "Strengthen Confederation," but Sistan was not added as a core. Like, isn't the point of "Strengthen Confederation" that you are integrating those ethnic groups into your national identity? Then if you are integrating the Balochi people in 2 provinces, why doesn't it add the third if you have it?

8) The "Kabul Radio" focus will only give you Radio technology if you don't already have it. Afterward, it does nothing. IMO it should always give you the next Radio technology, or at least a 50% Research Bonus or an Ahead of Time Bonus for Radio technology. Maybe Radar if you have all the Radio technologies and the first Radar unlocked. It kinda feels bad to get less from this focus because you already researched Radio; it makes it so you have to play the country in a very particular way, unnecessarily. "Mountain Training" and "Turkish Mountaineer Corps" already does this. It'd be nice if "Kabul Radio" did as well.

9) "Establish Khorasan Buffer State" isn't very useful on its own. You can only do this focus if you've already defeated Iran, so it doesn't let you steal territory from Iran. It doesn't actually serve as a very good buffer, because if you are occupying the rest of Iran, the USSR's focus to attack Iran will make them attack Khorasan instead, forcing you into a war with the USSR. If you are instead puppeting the rest of Iran even with a Khorasan puppet, the USSR's focus will make them attack you if you (I presume if you aren't in the Allies, which you won't be because the Allies will kick you out if you puppet or take any territory and are not Democratic). I guess this somewhat useful in that if you have an Iran puppet and a Khorasan puppet, Khorasan won't automatically be called into the war with the USSR. I think what this is supposed to be used for is to call the Allies in on the war with Iran, then allow the UK to spend their War Score to take Khorosan, then use this focus to take 3 provinces to make part of their puppet into your puppet. But I still think this could be a little more useful. Which brings us to...

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

10) The "Develop X" focuses plus "Central Asian Unification" should be universal. Take them out of the USSR-aligned tree. "Ministry of Propaganda," "Defender of Central Asia," "State Atheism," and "Soviet Research Cooperation" are already amazing focuses in the USSR-aligned economy branch. Just take these focuses and move to them to somewhere anyone can get to. And in fact, expand this section. There should be a "Develop Khorasan" focus to make the "Establish Khorasan Buffer State" more useful. There should be a "Develop Balochistan" focus since you're able to integrate the Balochis, anyway. There should be a "Develop Kyrgyzstan" focus so you can boost up all your new allies a little bit if you go down the "Against Kabul" path. There should be a "Develop Pakistan" because man, it's pretty wack they have no resources at all. And why not Sinkiang? If you can already enter an "Alliance with the Turkic People," why not the people of East Turkistan? You don't even have to piss off the real-world CCP by using that name; even they known Turkic people live there. After all, why can't Afghanistan benefit from getting involved in the Japan-China war? You already have an interesting border with Sinkiang, so why is it completely discouraged for Afghanistan to get involved there!?

10)b] Truthfully, I'd rather have a "Develop Central Asia" focus that brings up a Decision menu allowing you to get these same bonuses as long as they are occupied by you, an ally in your faction, or if they are your puppets. That'd be more organized, allow you to get other focuses done while you work on these, and have a good alternate use for your PP through the mid and late-game. Make it require factories or a minimum level of Infrastructure if you want, although it could be argued that you'd basically be paying in PP the equivalent value of a Focus, and you're already doing an initial focus on top of that.

But yeah, ideally you'd puppet these territories, allow them to go through their Generic Focus Trees, develop them with these decisions, and then the "Unite Central Asia" focus would allow you to simultaneously core and annex the provinces one at a time (from your occupied territory or a puppet). These are really weak provinces, so something like this is the only way to become powerful as Afghanistan. But remember I talked about risk versus reward? Maybe you are pressed for time in a game, and need to fully integrate a puppet before they finish their focus tree. But on the plus side, since you're coring and integrating a single province at a time, you could leave the puppet alive with weaker provinces until you later finish annexing them. This - plus the fact that you need to conquer this territory from multiple different political blocs - would make it a little different than, say, Yugoslavia. And getting the free Naval Dockyards from Balochistan's and Pakistan's generic focus tree might actually make building a small fleet plausible.

These would include Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Balochistan, Pakistan, Sinkiang, and Khorasan (although just the 3 starting provinces).

11) I just want to emphasize here that you REALLY should consider adding some content involving the Second Sino-Japanese war. Right now, it feels like Afghanistan has too few options. Maybe instead of an "Afghan-Pakistan Confederation," there could be an "Afghan-Sinkiang Confederation." Maybe you can offer to join the United Chinese Front, and if you develop Sinkiang with the "Develop Central Asia" focus decisions, earn enough War Score, and push Japan out of continental Asia (when China gets the white peace option), you will be able to peacefully integrate with Sinkiang. If the USSR would otherwise declare war on you, they'd do so after they flip Sinkiang and Communist China to the Commiterm, making it at least somewhat of a race against time.

Or you could attack China either independently or as a member of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. You'd have a pretty easy border to defend, but it'd also be difficult with your weak economy to build the Supply Hubs and Infrastructure that might be needed to push into Northern/Western China. And there's not very much holding the USSR from declaring war on you (and possibly Japan) and instantly capitulating you while your army is in China.

And if you don't finish things quickly, one way or another, you might miss your chance to attack Iran before the UK and USSR. This forces you to declare war on the Allies if you want to get those provinces. So again, a race against time.

See? It works either way. And you've already made Afghanistan-Turkic connections elsewhere in the focus tree, so why not? Especially if you're not going to allow Afghanistan to form Persia anymore, Afghanistan needs something to keep players occupied and the country growing. But uh, don't forget that the Second Sino-Japanese War happens in 1937, and currently it's almost impossible to start a war as Non-Aligned or Democratic until 1939. So give them some way in, even if it is just temporarily joining Japan's faction.

11)a] Okay, I see there's a Sinkiang focus in the Democratic branch, but it's a little weak and I think it'd be good if the love was spread to different routes, as well.

12) There should probably ALSO be a Persia-reformation route that is mutually-exclusive with the "Develop Central Asia" and "Central Asian Unification" focuses. Several countries have a few different ways they can conquer and gain cores. I don't see why Afghanistan should be different in this respect.

Afghanistan uses South American portraits, why shouldn't Iran?
In terms of clothing, Iranians look more like South American commanders than those strange Arab and Egyptian hats

Hey! @AveeBee here to give you a rundown of what we’ve been up to recently.

Since Graveyard of Empires released, we’ve been working hard to polish and refine the new content to make it more enjoyable. Some of this has taken the form of bug fixes of course, but we’ve also fully reworked significant sections of some focus trees, as well as added some completely new content that we really hope you enjoy.

Many of you may have seen these changes already if you participated in the open beta recently and I’d like to say thank you to all who did! Your feedback was much appreciated and really helped us refine the new content.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

Saadabad Pact
The Shared Saadabad tree is a joint focus tree that is shared between Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkey. This tree represents the historical Treaty of Saadabad, which was a pact of non aggression signed in 1937 between these countries. Historical AI will only complete the first focus in the branch, which is what creates the non aggression pact and gives all nations that agree a (weak) national spirit. However, on alt-history there is potential for expanding this into a much stronger alliance. Every focus completed will improve the national spirit bit by bit, until it eventually becomes a major boon to all members.

View attachment 1286607

The focus tree brings back the joint tree banners as seen in the Congo in Götterdamerung. The banner with all four flags can be taken by any member, and will give rewards to everyone, often with an additional bonus for the originator. Focuses with a specific flag can only be taken by that country, but these will also give bonuses to everyone.

The “Military Cooperation” focus leads to the focuses “Expand our Influence”, giving war-related diplomatic bonuses to all members, “SAVAK to Protect Us All” which Iran can complete after it has formed SAVAK, and “Joint Military Exercises”, which gives military XP gain to everyone.

On the other side you have the “Economic Cooperation” focus, which leads to the focuses “Expand Road and Rail Connections” and “Integration of our Infrastructure”, which opens the borders between the pact members, constructs a railway through the region, and gives every member a trade discount when buying resources from each other. There is also the “New Branches for the Baghlan Sugar Company” and “Joint Trade Through the Berlin-Baghdad Railway” focuses. These two can only be taken by Afghanistan and Iraq respectively, and allow them to share their resources with the rest of the pact, giving bonuses to every member including themselves.

After either “Joint Military Exercises” or “Integration of our Infrastructure” has been taken, the second half of the tree is unlocked.

View attachment 1286608

Every member has one or two dedicated focuses that center on something they are good at. This focus can only be completed by said country. When they complete the focus, they get a relevant bonus, and a lesser version of the bonus is given to every other member.

An exception to this is the “Turkish Chromium Exports” and “Iranian Oil Exports” focuses. In the Open Beta, these received valuable feedback that adding resources they already have is not useful. They will now allow Iran & Turkey to export some of their primary resources (Oil & Chromium respectively) to private corporations across the pact, in exchange for small amounts of other resources.

Completing any one of those focuses unlocks the last two focuses of the tree, “Combined Arms” and “Saadabad Research Cooperation”, giving big combat bonuses toward major countries and creating a research sharing group respectively. In order to complete either of the two focuses, you are required to be in a faction with at least one other member of the Saadabad Pact. The Saadabad tree does not provide a focus to make this faction, as this would lead to weird interactions with political branches, instead you must use your own political tree or the vanilla faction mechanics for this to happen, how you wish to tell the story is in your hands.

Raj - Communist Branch
We have almost completely revamped the Communist Branch for India. We felt that there was room for improvement here, both in terms of the story being told and the gameplay itself. So we wanted to focus on improving the narrative and flow of the tree in a number of ways.

First off we redid how you turn communist. Beforehand you would use the autonomy system and break free, even in the communist path. Looking back later we agreed with community feedback that this didn't gel well with the narrative and was confusing for players.

View attachment 1286610

You will now start to align the various elements of India to your cause. Doing the Royal Indian Navy Mutiny requires quite a lot of communist support, but you can reduce the requirement by infiltrating the British-Indian Government and the Independence movement, turning it to your cause.

View attachment 1286611

The tree is now split into two separate branches. One is centered on Urban Industrialization, which focuses on heavy and rapid Industrialization in a similar style as the USSR or Agrarian Socialism with a greater focus on the countryside.

The trees are centered around your five year plan. How you see the future of your country will impact the plan itself. The Urban Industrialization is focused on Heavy Industry

View attachment 1286612

Whereas Agrarian Socialism focuses more on the countryside, boosting rural states and giving bonuses such as research and stability.

View attachment 1286613

The different communist branches also have a unique way to style your army. The Urban Industrialization path focuses on a quality army to get the job done.

View attachment 1286614

Whereas the left side focuses on the peasantry to get the job done, using India's vast amount of population to grind the enemy to dust, focusing on quantity more so than quality.

View attachment 1286615

The Red curtain falls over Asia now gives you an opportunity to spread the revolution across Asia without getting directly involved in war.

View attachment 1286616

If you perform a communist coup the AI can either decide to join you directly as puppets, or cast the country into a civil war.

It also now has a way to end the truce with Pakistan by winning one out of three border conflicts, which also transfers that state to you.

View attachment 1286617
As you gather your strength you can take on the great Japanese threat.

Raj - Loyalty Branch
We also added a loyalist branch for India where you remain a dominion of the UK. The tree is divided into two industrial branches. One is where you continue to extract as much wealth from India as possible, helping to fuel the UK and the dominions industries, or a more moderate approach which aims to reform India's industrial capabilities to keep the wealth inside India. Less radical than the independence branch but more progressive than the former of these options.

View attachment 1286618

Players will also need to deal with the independence movement in some ways, either by favoring one of the other, and meeting the demands of its leaders.

View attachment 1286619

Becoming a dominion will cut down how much resources you need to ship to the UK, granting you more freedom than before, relative to other subjects, but still being a part of the empire.

View attachment 1286620

The right hand side deals directly with military manners.

You can either choose to consult with congress leaders before entering the war alongside the UK, or ignore them altogether. You then form the South East Asia Command, giving you a specialization for your army.

View attachment 1286621

The rest of the branch deals with helping the faction by picking which areas to focus on. These also allow you to get into the fight much quicker than before, either by focusing on the East, Central Africa of Northern Africa, or all of them.

View attachment 1286622

Kurdistan Rework
Another one of the things that got a little bit of a revamp was the Iraqi Kurdish content. We heard your feedback and wanted the Kurdistan path to feel a little bit more viable and unique, thus we have given them some rather powerful buffs, and a potential change of ideology! The switch to communism will not be mandatory, but it will buff up Kurdistan significantly, allowing them to not only join the Comintern, but also to grab some sweet CAS from the Soviets. To make fighting in the region easier we also gave the Kurdish some bonuses to fighting in the mountains. While the terrain is still going to be a challenge, you will now be better prepared to face it!

View attachment 1286623

Iran Changes
With Iran, we heard you were wanting for a few more characters, so we scoured the forums for your suggestions and decided upon two new Generals, and two scientists! That’s right, Iran now gets two scientists and a small bonus to building facilities by going down their democratic branch, and electing not to go through with the Islamic Revolution.

View attachment 1286625

But wait, there’s more! We have also added some new content directly for Iran, as well as a little bit of flavor regarding the Kurdish regions of the country. First of all, let’s talk about the new Iranian content specifically.

We have now added the opportunity to put a Qajar Shah on the throne! This is available to anyone who has become a puppet of the United Kingdom, and appears within the subject branch underneath ‘Swear Fealty to the Invaders’. This focus will fire off an event chain that will give you the option to depose or exile the Pahlavi family if they are still in power. On doing so, you will bring Mohammad Hassan Mirza into power as the new head of the Qajar dynasty.

We have also added a new version of a released Kurdistan that can be triggered by the Soviet Union when they conquer Iranian states that have Kurdish cores. If Kurdistan doesn’t already exist, and Russia is communist, then the Soviet Union will receive an event that will allow them to grant autonomy to Kurdistan, releasing it as the Republic of Mahabad. This new country is run by Qazi Muhammad and will spawn as a puppet socialist republic under the Soviets.

Conclusion
That’s it for this dev diary, we hope it has got you pumped to dive back into the graveyard with renewed vigor! As always, we'll continue to adjust and improve this and all other content as we develop the upcoming war efforts. In the meantime, keep your feedback coming and have fun.

Finland: 80% of Finnish political advisors dont even have portraits

Germany: Hans Luther, Ludwig Erhard, Reinhard Heydrich
Norway: Rolf Jorgen Fuglesang
Iran: Rokneddin Mokhatari and Karim Buzarjomehri
Iraq: Ma'ruf al-Rusafi

Afghanistan: Junaid Khan, Sher Ali Sherkhanzai, Shir Muhammed-bek Gazi, Sardar Shah Mahmud Khan, Fayzulla Xo'jayev, Abduraf Fitrat

After reading all the debates about portraits, outfits, and hairstyles, I’m now convinced that Paradox should release a small art pack that includes character portraits.

:D
Still nope, respectfully.

DLC pack of generics, i would support.

But all characters introduced in a DLC should have their own portraits in that DLC too. No generics allowed and no to another DLC to rectify that.
