Hi everyone.

Today we have the first of several patches to improve performance in Cities: Skylines II. While this does not address all issues we are aware of, we wanted to get you these improvements as soon as possible.

This patch includes the following improvements and fixes:

  • Changed LOD to be independent of rendering resolution to get more consistent performance with high resolutions
  • Minor optimization with fog
  • Depth of field optimizations and tweaks
  • Global illumination tweaks
  • Optimized stutters when buildings spawn/level up
  • Optimized various stutters across all systems
  • Fixed crash after upgrading wind turbine
  • Fixed crash when car crashes into still hidden car with trailer
  • Fixed crash with mesh loading (that happens with low settings mostly)

Update 1st of November
The patch is now live on the Microsoft Store & Game Pass as well and includes a fix for the pre-order and San Fransisco Set not unlocking correctly.

Thanks for this information. Can you please confirm if the recommended settings have changed?
The improvement to FPS you see can vary depending on hardware. Some may see a significant improvement while others might only see a smaller improvement. At this time we recommend you experiment with the settings you turned down to see what kind of FPS you're seeing with this update.

Game Pass uses the same version as the Microsoft Store. We haven't forgotten you and we expect to have the update available for you soon.

"Optimized stutters" is an interesting way of wording. Does this mean it stutters less often?
Less often or for fewer players. These are primarily on the simulation side of things and can vary a lot depending on the CPU, so we'll continue to monitor reports.
 
Game is running way better now, thanks. One question, you said that in performance you target 30fps. Why is there no option to cap the game at 30fps? That would help to provide a more stable experience. Cheers!

Tried out DOF after this update, and it appears to not work at all now?

The bug where the game fades detail in and out and textures go black also came back (the one fixed by setting MIPS to 1 in Advanced settings), but it went away when I set it to 0 and then 1 again.

But DOF seems totally busted out of the box now.

LOD seems to have had a noticeable change, as in, it seems to actually work properly now. Mine's still set to low so I don't know if it's BETTER, but trees actually go to high LOD when close now instead of staying kinda funky.

Edit: Global Illumination seems to also not work at all now. Nothing changes when either DOF or Global Illumination are turned on, regardless of settings.

I have set it to physical and it works good.
In general I set up graphics quality to high, turned off motion blur and set Dynamic Resolution Scale Quality to Automatic and it runs like a dream now.

@co_avanya Is the team aware of and working on a fix for the bug when you terraform near water, and bring land that was previously underwater above sea level, the game thinks the terrain is still under water. The only fix i've found currently is reloading the game. Speeding up the sim and waiting has no effect.
