Alrighty, I just recently reinstalled EU because it started acting up. Now I'm having problems patching my copy. When I patch with the UK patch it ignores my cd ("Can't find EU cd") and the North American patch ignores the game entirely ("Europa Universalis is not installed on this computer", or something). I can't remember what I did last time. Help?

Hmm.. which version do you have? If it is a new release it might already be patched. Else it is odd (assuming that you have an english version).

Do you have two CD players on the computer, in case it is looking at the wrong one? (Reaching for straws here, as usual ;))

It sounds like the patches can't find your game. (I know, "Duh, Cat")

Are they in the original directories? (C:/Program Files/etc.etc.) Or do the patches tell you where they think the game should be?

If the patch isn't giving you an option to change directories, then you may need to move the game over to where it's looking, patch it, then move it back to whereever you want. Royal pain...but better than naught I guess.

I tried installing the game into the default directory before I installed the Nth. America patch, no luck. The UK patch asks me where I installed EU but won't acknowledge my cd when I actually try to play it.

Game works fine unpatched but I want to play Yogurt's medieval mod which requires 1.10. It worked fine for ages before it started acting up and I decided to reinstall, now it's being bitchy and won't let me patch.

That would actually sound like a registry issue. Although I guess you installed it in the same spot as the last time?

Uninstalling again, cleaning the registry if you have the know-how and then installing once more (possibly in a new place on the HD) might work?

I'm afraid I don't have the know-how, but I could take a good guess. I've installed it into many different places since I reinstalled it, about 4 different places on 4 different HDs.

Guessing could easily cause more problems for you that it would be worth, but I don't really have the registry knowledge myself to say much more than that ;)

That's a lot of installs.. do you have another computer you could test to install it on? That way we'd be able to narrow it down to whether it is something limited to that computer or not.

Heh.

I guess I could install it on one of these sh*tboxes I've got lying around here... I wonder if any of them work.

EDIT: Okay, I installed it on another computer but it doesn't work even without the patches. Game begins, flashes black, closes. I'm not worrying about that though. The North American patch found the EU files and installed perfectly. Game does same thing though.

I reinstalled the game and the UK patch installed fine and the game does the same thing but as far as I'm concerned it can find the EU cd. So... it's probably something to do with my computer.

And that something would probably be either the CD reader (getting old and/or dirty - clean lens and/or disk and see if that helps) or some strange artifact in the registry file (uninstalling and removing all references to Europa Universalis in the registry might help)

Well, my CD drive works fine so I guess I'll go have a looksy at the registry. BUT I won't change anything unless I'm absolutely certain it won't f*ck everything up.
