It should work with Gamersgate, that's pretty much the only way its sold now, so I wouldn't see why it wouldn't.
As to female inheritance, DVIP - an excellent mod produced by jordarkelf - has incorporated male-preference primogeniture as a succession law into his latest release of the mod. However, an unmoded CK: DV will not have female inheritance.

I've gotten CK + DV through GG but it's for the Mac. The patch you linked to uses an .exe file. Is there any way for Mac users to update to the 2.1 beta patch?
Patching up the game shouldn't affect your save games. But I don't think PI guarantees that
Patch up and test it.
