Yup you can enter an unfortified province with any army. Entering a province with minimal --> small --> medium --> large --> mighty --> maximum fortress asks more troops each time

You can always try to enter a province that has enemy troops in it, regardless of the fortification level. Funny.

This contributes to the ping-pong retreating enemy force problem. Often the best way of handling these small, irritating enemy forces is to ignore them. They will die when they no longer can move anywhere (because of being too small to stay where they are or move anywhere because of the fortification levels).

And whats the deal when I go into a province (usually with small armies) and after beating them I retreat with them....????? "didn't I just win?:D

So, if the enemy province is empty and I don't have the "minimum" I can't march in...But...even if don't qualify to invade the province, I do am allowed to march in and engage the enemy army? Weird

I dunno the exact mathematics but oen rule seems to work for me and that is to have more men attacking than in the fortress garrison. So a level 2 fort with 10K I attack with a bit more than 10K. Never seems to fail me.

For the exact mathematics, go to Hiszic's site :D

Another question...
In provinces which produce, say, grain or spices...what kind of factory would you install, if any?
With the Tordesillas treaty working, can a spanish host attack a unit of mine wandering around in their "influence sphere"? Because those bastards well did attack me without being at war.
Does it affect when giving siege to a enemy town to block their port...do they get -1 faster? Its almost impossible to get those island forts, why? they hold out forever.

It doesn't matter which factory you put there. Personally I put refineries there. Not for the 6d extra each year, but because the extra 5p per month for your trade-development.

Tordesillas: yes. I heard about it in a BBC-documentary about the Aztec Empire. When the Aztecs were told by the Spanish soldiers that according to the pope their country was for Spain, they supposed the pope was drunk :D

I don't know the answer on your last question. I suppose it isn't true, but I am not sure.

2)Where in my game files do I have to download the 1.09 patch? I did it but don't see any change whatsoever. Do I have to begin a new game to feel it (its currently my first one and a grand campaign).

The version you are currently running always shows up in small writting in the top left-hand corner of that screen at the begining where you pick single player, multi player, etc.

Screwups

 Arghhhh....Already the second time in this campaign that this happens...Years of campaigns against the heathens, thousands of young lives lost just to press in a moment of mental absence "peace" with some people which turns (due to those peskie alliances) into "All my faughjt gains in other theather gone to naught".
I know its not a question or doubt (Just my carelesness) but I wonder if you, Oh mighty players, have gotten the same more than once?:D
If you go through those complete AAR (with no reloads, etc..) it seems they never do anything wrong (like loosing big time or as I did...stupid human errors)
Was just ranting a bit..thanks for the time :D

You mean stupid human errors like making a white peace with Marokko, while your armies just finished capturing the last of the Omani forts, just to find out that those darn heathen were allied? Uhh, no, never happened to me... :D
