PBEM Game - Players Wanted!

First, acknowledgements to Raul the Runt for the idea.
If anyone wants to Play-by-email, I would like to set up a game.

Basically this works by handing of the game to one of five players every five years or less. While each player has his turn, the other four player's countries are played by the AI.

Settings:
Difficulty: Hard
AI Aggressiveness: Normal
Forced Annexation: On
Fog of War: on
Dynamic Missions: off
Base Victory Points: On

Rules:
1. Max 5 year turn.
2. Max 5 players.
3. 2 days to complete your turn (turn order will be set randomnly by me later). If you can't make a turn, the computer plays it for you.
Email the zipped file to all players.
4. No cheating, editing of files, no EEP. Just straight 1.04US, with pledge of honor not to exploit game loopholes.
5. No reloading.
6. Realpolitik applies. Possible Fox and Lion award to the player showing most Machiavellian duplicity.

Players choose nation at beginning of their turn, so whoever gets first turn order gets first choice.

Email me or post for details or suggestions.

I am tentatively set on the 1419 grand campaign, although 1492 can be used if others seem more favorable to it.

I'm in

HI. Ulver here.

I’m the guy playing the megalomaniac Chinese in another PBM game. I’m having so much fun I’d be eager to join another.

Are you absolutely sure you want to play without victory points? Personally I like to be able to gloat if I’m ahead. (And point at some one else as the big bad we need to gang up on if I'm not)

Now we are on the subject of victory points. Why do you all hate missions?

Ulver

Base victory points are now on (my mistake), but the impossible missions are not. (Many reasons to hate missions. royal marriage with papal states my favourite. :) )

Gloating is not only allowed, it is encouraged. Not to mention backstabbing and intrigue.

Players committed thus far:

1. Ludovico
2. Ulver
3.
4.
5.

The game will begin when there is a minimum of 3 players, the 6 days hopefully being enough time for 1 or 2 new players to join.

Edit: Added AAR Thread. See link in my sig.

You don’t seriously expect players will use the full 48 hours each in the beginning do you? I must confess I do like the harmless randomness in missions. I do get your point about a royal marriage with the pope though.

You may want my e-mail. It’s ulver@ulver.dk

Being Danish I’m thinking about playing Denmark. To my mind the “superpowers” tend to be boring. China is rather an exception for me. She is saddled with so many handicaps compared with European nations that it should still be interesting. Of course my ideal game would be one where we all agreed to play pagan nations. That would truly be interesting.

I especially like the notion of converting captured provinces to paganism.

Players committed thus far:

2. Ulver
3. Evenflow
4. Waldzwerg

I would not be against being unable to choose the "major" powers (i too find them boring.) We could do something along the lines of being unable to choose the default 8 powers? We can vote on this. If no one votes, all players should feel free to choose any nation.
We can also try a pagan game if others are interested, I'll see if I get an overflow of response.

Yes, yes. You are probably right, most will not use the full 48 hours. We have four players now though, so a fifth is optional. I will see on this. But I think with four we can start now.

I still am very hesistant about missions, but if everyone else were to say they want them, we can turn them on.

So all players, please get back to me on these points if you wish. If no one else responds, we'll keep it as is.

I have (randomnly) set the order:

It is:
1. Ulver
2. Evenflow
3. Ludovico
4. Waldzwerg

I agree on the not playing major nations, and am even interested in the pagan thing, but the problem with pagans is, that those countrys don't really have much involvement with the rest of the world. maybe if we all choose nations that don't have catholosicm at all. we could have a purely far east game, where everyoen chooses countrys between the mamluke kingdom to japan and any between. I'm not to keen on the mission things either, i never really do them. and also i never use the 48 hours either, i usually do it as soon as its my turn, cause 5 years doesn't take long.

Ok, two votes for no missions, one for missions.
No majors: 3 votes for, zero votes for their inclusion. ( i think medium powers such as Sweden, Venice, etc. should be ok? You guys can choose when it comes to your turn I guess)

And once this game is off the ground, I will try organizing a Pagan game only, but we may need to make some house rules for that.

Ok we are set then.

No missions.
No majors.

Pagan/Eastern world game will be set up soon.

Ulver, anytime you wish to start is fine. Just remember to tell us what country you are playing (you may wish to write in the AAR).

OK. Made my turn as Denmark. Turn can be found at http://www.ulver.dk/files/EU2PBM_Dan1.zip

Obviously my first objective was the trade centre in Mecklenburg. Unfortunaly Holstein was in the way. Both of those countries were in a grand alliance with Pommern, Bremen and Tertonic Order. A bit much for the Scandinavian alliance I thought. Until they all decided to bleed themselves to death against an alliance of Poland, Lithuania and Brandenburg that is. After gleefully watching them die on the battlefields of Northern Germany for a couple of years I swooped down like a vulture and grabbed both of them as well as Brandenburg. The last was properly an overstretch as it as led to a serious stain on my international standing. Well, a century or so at being a good boy may be in order.

I’m quite willing to write a few words in your AAR thread but I do think you need to establish the setting. Why are we only in control of our countries one fifth of the time?

In the original PBM Raul The Runt came up with a magical spell that killed the players only to let them raise un aging again and again. In the other game where I play China I’ve come up with a (pseudo) scientific explanation. You can read it on http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=33961 if you are interested.

I fear I only have the creative energy to make a major effort in one AAR at a time but, sure, I’ll make some entries to keep the story going from a Danish perspective. Just establish the setting.

*a mysterious voice fills the room*...a pox upon you...the mutated curse idea was created by Backpack:D
Many of the other AAR's have better explanations though.

Raul the Runt came up with the rotational PBEM idea. *that mysterious voice again*...ALL HAIL THE LITTLE GENIUS.
I have started to refer to him as the Yoda of multiplayer.:) They have a lot in common...both short and wise with hair growing out of their oversized ears.:D

Yes yes. The 5 year problem. What I want is a non-fantasy explanation, unfortunately. So either I have to use a diplomatic cop out, or we can pretend the AI is still our country and defend its actions. Or the double cop-out. I can blend both of these.

I hastily posted for my first thread (It makes it more difficult cause I would like to start the setting with the countries, but those are chosen yet). Basically I want to get the interplay between players going. I will edit my first post so a theme can be worked out.

Ever consider the approach of using a hodgepodge of tales from different characters over the 400 years...although...that would be a rip off of Lord Durham's current Genoa AAR.

Yes. I believe I came up with a viable solution. The tried and true "Secret Society."

Of course, my wish for an alliance between us four has still been left unanswered.

Ahh...good choice.:) :) I am looking forward to your AAR.

EDIT: Excellent intro to the AAR Ludovico. A good read.:)
