I was having my game crash when I tried to play multiplayer, so after leaving the game uninstalled for a while i decided to try single-player. I just tried and after about a year, my screen and peripherals (mouse & keyboard) all go dark. Monitor displays an error detecting video input. The computer is still on as I can still hear vic3's music in the background, however I cannot ctrl+alt+del, alt-f4, alt-tab, or windows-L, to minimize/close the program to see if (despite no video) it is still functioning. Also tried reseating the monitor's hdmi cable.

In the end I have to manually force power-down my tower and reboot it.

Any ideas why or suggestions? I didn't have this issue when the game first launched (could play single or multiplayer with no issues like this), then i got desktop crashes, and now this. I haven't had any other issues with paradox games or other publishers recently.

Edit:
  • Fresh install, no mods, have reinstalled game twice. Have deleted vic3 documents folder for the 2nd reinstall to try and get a properly fresh install.

This sounds like a PCI bus lockup problem, of sorts. Does the music continue to play the song(s) to completion, or is it the same music fragment looping over and over again?

To get the diagnostics started, does your system has an Intel Raptor Lake or Meteor Lake i7 or i9 CPU installed?

I'm unsure how long the songs in vic3 are but it wasn't similar to the jarring looping error you used to get on windows 7 when the computer froze up if that's what you mean. It sounds like the game music normally (i just can't see anything or interact with anything [alt-f4 etc]).

As for my specs,
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900x cpu
  • NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 Ti
The computer freezing up happened twice, around December of the first year, so i checked my drivers and there was one driver update that may have solved the issue as after reinstalling for a 3rd time i got to 1840 with no issues, have yet to test in multiplayer or a full game to verify it works completely though.

If it happens again,
Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.
