So I'm trying to play multiplayer with my friend who's on MAC. We've confirmed we aren't using any mods, are both playing via steam, have exactly the same version number, have both force enabled crossplay with the "-nakama" launch option but are still experiencing issues trying to start a multiplayer game.

What happens is that I host as I have all of the DLC, we then create our Empires but for some reason his (MAC user) screen doesn't show me as in the lobby, doesn't show him as having selected this new Empire and doesn't show him as readied up regardless of how many times he presses the button. It does however show him as done and readied up on my (host, PC user) screen. I then press start game and it takes an age to go with the button greyed out saying "Game is about to start." This takes forever and eventually it does start but it forces my friend out of the lobby and he can't hot-join, all of my steam invites take him to the main menu screen and even if he tries direct joining with the Server ID & password it's seemingly stuck infinitely connecting.

Any help would be really appreciated as he only got the game bc of my recommendations and we'd very much like to take over the galaxy together. Cheers

All I can say is that I’ve been playing on Mac for years, and I’ve never had any of these issues in MP games. Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the game? Some files might be corrupted.

Ty for the reply. Yep tried this + validating files still nothing. It seems to be a communication issue, either from one of us -> server or from the server back to us. Idk how to best troubleshoot it either :/

If you are both on Steam you do not need to do this. But if you do want to try that, use the droplist next to PLAY in our launcher to choose Cross store MP.

There was an update last night that fixed some MP issues. I suggest you both delete your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/cache folder, then try a new galaxy under that patch.
