Peace discussions causing freeze and ctd

Ok, I'm playing Victoria 1.01 and have trouble making peace with my adversaries for 4 time out of 5 the computer will completly stop working after the ennemies agrees to my propositions. It is a problem I had not had before. Anyone can help ?

EDIT : I forgot to mention : my computer is an ACER TravelMate 630 with a P4-M 1800 MHz processor, 512 Mo RAM, 30 Go Hard Disk and 32 Mo separate video RAM, running under Win XP

I have the same problem and it's getting to a point where I won't go to war unless I can annex the whole country
