Most Germans I know including me are appaled of Nazi culture and methods and not because they lost.

I wouldn't beat yourselves up too much over it, though. Take a look at all the other things that have been done in history. Many similar, many far worse. I've said for a long time now, that if you had to summarize human history with a single word, the best choice would be: "Bloodshed"

WWII is just more recent. If the Mongol invasions (or Timur, etc.) had happened only 70 years ago, how much shame would their descendants be obligated to live under? There's been so much murder, genocide, and countless atrocities that were never captured on black & white film. Supposedly what makes the WWII era different, is that 'modern' Germans were supposed to be more cultured, conscientious, civilized, etc. But in the end, we're all just human. Things don't really change that much. ~12,980 years ago, there was a cataclysmic event that reset human civilization all over the world. All that remains, is their megalithic stone structures that we can't replicate, even to this day... either the superb quality of the work, or the movement & placement into the construction (to say nothing about other little 'details').

Life goes on. All you can do, is your best.

I just can't believe Zeppelinfeld is still there, and there's actually a little obscure Nazi museum nearby it. A surprisingly not-so-anti-Nazi Museum, it must be said. Go in there, and you'd almost think the 3rd Reich is still going on. But, I guess you just can't get rid of that much concrete. Probably should try, though. And get rid of the Eagle's Nest, as well. People pay homage to that place, and they've got concessions set up there. It's only a matter of time before... well, who knows. If they really want to 'turn the page' completely , they should get rid of these places. -Kinda like what the Soviets did, in Berlin. No traces. As long as someone can still go to Zeppelinfeld at night, and make a 'spiritual connection' to the past... you're not out of the woods, yet... JMHO
Maybe they shouldn't get rid of it, just fence it off within plain sight and keep it as a reminder of why we don't do stupid things like that anymore. The worst thing about erasing the reminders is that they no longer exist as reminders, and we end up doing it all again for the same silly reasons and excuses as last time around, after the event slips beyond living memory.
