In the past few years, a lot of new activities have been added to the game, which really enriched the experience. But under the current mechanics, the game can still feel a bit boring outside of military expansion, since too many events are just probability checks based on traits or attributes.
I'm just spitballing some ideas to make the learning lifestyle more engaging. I think this could apply to things like seeking knowledge, piety, or even witchcraft.
Kind of like the Chinese imperial exams—I think we could add some actual knowledge elements, like philosophy, quotes, poems, or historical facts. Characters could pick up this knowledge during peer interactions, university visits, pilgrimages, or other travel events—from friends, tutors, travelers, or family. Eventually, they could develop traits like "Hastiluder" and use this knowledge as extra options in exams or other events.
A big part of game life doesn't have to be waiting around and picking the highest probability—but seeking knowledge and making friend like treature hunt of adventurers. Players can persuit its prestige, piety and secular success by this way. Besides, Adding more historical knowledge would make it even more fun.
I also think this system could work in Islamic, Hindu, or Christian worlds—where people study the Quran and Hadith, Upanishads, Sutras, or the Bible, even ancient Greek philosophy, and become more scholarly within their own cultures. It would better reflect intercultural intellectuals too—like, a Tibetan-speaking Vajrayana monk with high learning shouldn’t be a top competent guardian or tutor in a Medieval Christian court. That feels unrealistic. And a great honored Imam can travel more cheap, safe and convient, and more easily got a position in exotic Islamic court, as Ibn Battuta
How far can we go? Please discuss it if it's possible
