My opponent and I both have the same trade level and we can both establish monopolies. All my merchants get kicked out of his C of T. Is there any way to keep merchants in a CofT when another player has a monopoly there?
I'm still learning everyday how the CoT stuff works, but you have to keep flooding the CoT with merchants. Sometimes you gain ground, sometimes you can force someoene else to lose ground, and sometimes nothing happens. Keep flooding the CoT in order to achieve your goals...and then you have to keep flooding it some more in order to hold onto your goals.
It can be near impossible sometimes. Save up 6 merchants and send them all at once - that should make some dent if you have a higher trade tech. But if it has a high value, the computer will probably start autosending them back in and repeating this over and over will quickly become very boring. The game should allow you more customization of the autosend merchant ability so you can designate which CoTs to send merchants to; perhaps in EU2.
I think the whole merchant-CoT thing works too much like a lottery. You send in merchants in an attempt to win the jackpot (gaining an absolute monopoly). With most CoTs you have a better chance of winning the lottery. If the whole trade sub system were removed from the game I would not miss it.
Before u could always totally monopolize the colonial COTs and roll in the cash now u actually have to work and invest for those monopolies and those never are total anymore..
