I don't know if it's the same bug, but playing on 3.5.2 I've noticed automation disabling amenities jobs and ending up with unemployment. Despite there being unemployed pops the automation doesn't build anything. I'm guessing it's because it's counting the disabled jobs as available, and thus expects the unemployed to take them?

This was as a rogue servitor if that makes a difference
I noticed that as soon as I turn off automation, after it would freeze, it would immediately start building some. I toggled it back on and it seemed to work. Not sure what’s shutting it off, but when I start to see unemployment creep up with space to build then I toggle it now.

I'm still finishes up a 3.4.5 game so I don't know if these are already resolved, but here are a few more things I've noticed:
  • Automation ignores whether or not a building's upkeep would be affordable when deciding to repair it. I had an issue where it would keep trying to repair Advanced Research Complexes on some planets I conquered before I had access to Exotic Gasses, which would result in upkeep I couldn't pay.
  • There's no obvious way to tell automation not to repair buildings, and it will repair all of them even if they don't match the current designation or there aren't pops to work the jobs they provide.
  • Pop assembly automation builds Machine Assembly Plants even if there are available Replicator jobs and no pops to take them.
  • Agri-World designation automation builds Hydroponics farms while there are still unbuilt agriculture districts, which are cheaper, faster, have lower upkeep, and also provide housing.
  • I would like an option for building the strategic resource buildings allowed by planetary features.

I just disable amenities automation. Utopians want max amenities, rogue servitors also want max amenities.

i think it "works properly" just not for us who are building utopias :p i think they said they would look at having different amenity behaviours or at least letting us choose a target level

We don’t need a target level for this. The problem is that disabled jobs aren’t counted as contributing to unemployment, so the automation stops building even though it has unemployed pops.

hmmm you mean it was disabling the bio trophy job itself? that isn't supposed to happen so that would definitely be a bug

No it was the synth jobs it was disabling, but then when a new synth would appear it would sit there unemployed even though there are open district/building slots, and disabled jobs.

May already exist this option, but I haven´t been able to find it.

I have been testing automating all I can my planets and one thing that upsets me is that i am not able to put my colonies in automatic mode as default, so I have to pay attention when my new colonies are settled so I have to do this manually.

At the mid and end game this can be a bit tedious , so it would be great if as with the checkbox that can put the default automatic modules in your new words, you can also put automation as a default.

Thank you for working in automation!!

I am using automation for every planet now. It works really solid as long as you have a clear planet designation available.
But i use it in tandem and sometimes manually queue some buildings etc. just to push a little.
This works really well.
The only issue remains that the automation switches off the Colonists jobs which can lead into loosing a planet.
Also i have some suspicions that the automation likes building Housing districts too much and i don't know if the automation knows that there is a buff for high amenities and it feels like the automation tries to really min/max low amenities without going into negative numbers.

I find it a bit strange how unification stations are automated:
It seems to build up a bunch of Leisure Districts, only to disable all jobs from it afterwards.
The precise setting was: all checked except the "Rare Resources" and "Pop Assambly", and no sector automation neither in a Void dweller, megacorp empire.

Probably because Unification Center Designation considers Leisure Districts to be for unity but Amenities automation disables the extra amenities jobs. Probably best to disable amenities automation.

Is there a way to disable amenities automation ? I thought those checkboxes were for building automation.

new colonies in a sector that has sector automation on will automatically have planet automation turned on as well!

yeah looks like this might be the case, will look into it

What has anyone found to be a good time to begin automation? I’ve started with the first planet and it does well keeping resources up, but isn’t optimal as far as getting research and some of the other needs. Do you get a good base first and then let automation take over once you get to a balance you like manually?

I baby my first couple of planets and "important" planets. Automation is for no brainer planets, like oh hey this planet has a lot of minerals, I already have a lot of minerals, set mineral planet, set automation on, move on with my life.

If I'm low on minerals then I'll baby the new mineral planet to make sure it's the immigration priority etc but e.g. fully automated the energy planets.

Planet Automation, as has been mentioned by @Critical Ethics , is best used for specialized planets. The Capital planet and most Urban/Nexus and Rural/Fringe planets need to be checked on every so often while. Also, as I mentioned elsewhere on this thread, turning on Planet Automation before the planet reaches 5 pops, which is when it can no longer have a Colony designation, is a bit counter-productive.
