Hey guys! So I'm new to Cities Skylines and actually fairly new to modding too!

I've only recently picked up this game and I'm already in love with it :D

One thing I really want to get into is modding and this game seems to be perfect for me personally, I'm a game design student and generally prefer working on prop/environment modelling. That's everything from buildings to cars etc. I think this could be a great project for me to get into to increase my skill and of course make something fun!

One thing I keep thinking while I play this game is the "good old days" for me playing Transport Tycoon haha. I used to love playing on the Mars/sci-fi themed map with all the hover trains and buses etc! So this got me checking out the workshop and seeing if there was much on there to fit this idea. Didn't find a huge amount, mostly unique buildings etc. Quad has a fair amount done I saw and they look amazing though!

So here's my thoughts and I just want to hear if anyone thinks this idea would be worth doing, feedback etc etc. And yes I'm aware this would be a maaaassive project if I want to do it correctly!

I'm going to start off small regardless, maybe creating a few buildings (1-5), some vehicles, props that match style fairly well, but overall I want to create an entire theme so it's like the old TT and I can play on Mars! :O

Set of growable sci-fi themed buildings - All levels and zone types!
Plobables - Police/Fire etc.
Unique Buildings
Maps - the key to it all really, making the world look alien, red planet/whatever :D

Like I said, I know this would be a large project but I would love to know if people would be interested in something like this anyway

Thanks! :)

I second it and with any building that made starting in the 4 updated to start with a 6 or 7 then everybody's Game will work who's have problems with Assets getting Cities.exe Error.

The new theme editor will be a real bonus to all those who want to produce "alternative worlds" I expect a real deluge of new custom maps and themed mods/assets. I predict a major boost for interest in the game as a result

Yeah could be, could be. Thinking even more now, they've added the particle systems for snowfall/fog/rain now, wondering if you can access those somehow, maybe by making my own particle system in unity and hooking it in somehow... could be fun to add ash/dust storms :D

That would be difficult, like all graphical things. We have no access to shaders.

If you go that way, I suggest using the Theme Editor first, for an alien looking world (like, water is turquoise or some other odd colour and the sky is lavender). Then make trees that look like huge blue grass or some other wierd form. Adding to both, make an alien map using those alien trees instead of earth ones.

I was just checking out the Theme editor last night yeah. Seems really awesome, can tweak quite a lot of unity's settings even in that (sun direction/intensity/colour etc). Looks like a very good way to do that part for sure
