Is there any way to bump myself up to Semi-Industrialized, or to build a halfway-decent airforce (anything but Int I, for pity's sake) as Nationalist China?

Without cheating, of course.

It's not possible to promote your industrial status, as those are predetermined. I reckon that limits your air force options as well.

Well dammit....

I'm gonna hafta cheat me an Int III by 1941 or so. Something practical, at least.

Hi,

I've never tried this but I'm pretty sure you can buy better units. so try that. This is historically how CHI got all of their decent equipment.

mm

Countries with Agrarian Economies are only able to construct two types of air unit: Int I and a weakened CAS I. Those are still useful in 1937 (still not worth building), but become completely obsolete and worthless after that. I mean...the Swedes purchased Italian RE-2000s, and the Finns purchased F2 Buffalos, those have to be worth INT IIs at the very least. I'm stuck with Sopwith Camels here. :(

Unless there's something to "Foreign Purchase" that I'm not aware of.

There are three levels of Foreign Purchases that can be researched: Initial, Developed (1940) and Completed (1943). Check those out - they are part of the Air Doctrines tree (down on the right hand side).

Ah, I had been so hung up on the interceptors that I hadn't noticed the CAS upgrades. Let's see...1936 CASs are almost a match for INT Is, 1940 CASs are almost a match for Int IIIs, and 1943 CASs are almost a match for INT IVs and can bomb as well as Interwar CASs.

Not too bad, considering. I wasn't expecting that. Thanks. :)

Now, my ability to read through these CORE files is limited, but if I research the Completed Air Mission tech, will that unlock anything for me, allowing me to research more Air Doctrines or regular air forces?

Note that these "CAS" units are not just "CAS", they're Air Groups, consisting of both CAS, TAC and INT aircraft (though I had to use the CAS model for them) thus they have a little bit of everything in their stats.

But yes, you should be able to able to research Continued Army-directed Air Arm with either Developed or Completed Air Mission techs (as long as you also have 1920s Aircraft Industry) or Independent Air Arm Formation with either Developed or Continued Air Mission techs (as long as you also have 1930s Aircraft Industry).

I'm not 100% certain it actually works as intended (I can't remember from the top of my head and looking at the files quickly makes me uncertain), but it's designed to work that way (there may be "requirement loops" preventing this from being allowed). :) The upcoming version 0.3 will redo these things a bit to make it all a bit more logical and should definately work then.

China doesn't start with either Aircraft Industry. Are they locked out completely?

And just how long is 0.3 gonna take? And just what is 0.3? Something less than a full 1.0? I would LOVE to work CORE into my AAR, but sooner or later, I'm going to have to post some in-game screenies.

0.3 is the next version of CORE - as it is still in development, we don't like to start at 1.0. It is aiming for early in the New Year (and no, that doesn't mean tomorrow :p ). Each time we produce a new version of the Mod, the idea is to try and advance things - fix problems, introduce new elements, make the game more interesting, etc.

Tim

The Aircraft Industry techs require some Industry techs (Base and/or Heavy industry), but this is where the "requirement loop" may come into effect, since these Industry techs might be off-limits from you being an Agricultural nation. I'm not sure about this.

Make that the end of the first quarter, before anybody gets there hopes up too much...

By the end of March sounds good :).

That's the plan at least...

But there should be instances where countries can increase their economy. Communist China, for example, starts off with 5 IC. If you capture all of the territory that it has claims on, it's IC would be over 100. I'd imagine that they would have expanded beyond an Agricultural economy before that point.

Why? I wouldn't classify China as a whole anything else, even in 1950 or so. I'm no expert on China, but industrialization probably kicked off only after the death of Mao and the end of the Cultural Revolution.

i would have to agree to what Hagar says there - even considering the prewar industry the nationalists had in the coastal areas - mostly consumer - nothin real that could make up a war-industry - all the stuff they had they stole from japanese, nationalist and second-line russian units decommisioned - like china and Russia with vietnam later on.
