tl;dr Please allow me to disable the snap back 'feature' of the camera.
I want this game to work. Gave it years now to get better. Hadn't checked in awhile, but saw a the Steam announcement for the 1.5.2 patch and gave it a read. In particular I saw "This is a change that seems to have been well received but many expressed hesitation about if it was worth integrating cultures due to the severe effect this had on the state and other integrated culture happiness."
"DDDDDddaammm", I thought, "thats some nuance like what we are seeing from Stellaris there."
So I thought, "Could be fun to bring peace to the Ancient world as the pragmatic good guy."
So I bought Magna Gracia, logged in as Macedonia. Boom, there was a cool prompt about the Successor Wars which gave me enough information to recall the history and remind me what to focus on (well done!). So I need to focus on Successor States. Far Alexandria shall fall under the Macedonian flag. But first, I need to look to the Greek City states. The default Camera Starts out looking north; that wont do. I care not about petty Tyrants to the North, my eyes are to the south and east across the Aegaeun. The North and West are afterthoughts.
So I turn my camera to "focus" my empire in the direction I want. Right click mouse, drag around, camera moves, find the right spot. Man that looks so cool, Looking at the small Greek states, all the islands, and Anatolia. So I let go of the mouse button aaand... it snaps back to North. "That's odd" I thought. "Perhaps there's a setting?"
Ah, there is a setting! A box labeled clearly 'Lock North'. I chuckle and think it an odd design choice to FORCE a camera perspective in a SANDBOX as the DEFAULT, but hey, takes a village. So I click the button and the camera in the back ground shifts. "Yup, cameras unlocked now." I confidently thought. So I go and line the camera up and it "WTF!?" it snaps back again when I let go of the button.
Turns out that setting only meant that it switched from a GLOBE to a FLAT MAP, not UNLOCKING CAMERA PERSPECTIVE. How SILLY of me to not realize that people preferred TWO different versions of cameras facing north instead of just an option to CHOOSE my own CAMERA LOCK POSITION? I bet the code setting is something silly that a modder fixed, it is a Paradox game. Sometimes there is wonkyness. Checked mods, nothing. "Huh", I thought, thats odd".
"Am I the first to have been annoyed at this? I guess its possible. Better do a search of the forums and google to check and then possibly see about submitting a feature request".
Nope. Turns out it has been a common, reoccurring complaint since the beginning.
Go to submit the suggestion, notice this forum. "Oh cool I thought, this must have already been posted there by some of the other people who have posted about this in the past". Nope. Guess they moved on or just accepted it.
So here is the post. It should be an easier fix. Please allow me to disable the snap back 'feature' of the camera. I want to play looking where I want, as per the attached Screen grab. Not be forced into looking at Thracia.
Please change the Camera so that I can change the default look direction.
