Does anyone have any ideas about improving the Overlord/Vassal system? (I'm on about in Singleplayer here)
For me it's great that you can take over an empire this way! I find if you conquer their capital, they'll happily become a vassal. But then there's a bit of a snag in my eyes: the AI keeps units on all the colony centres so you can't absorb them and they won't let you buy them either, so you can't expand that way.
My idea would be that once you become overlord you can research two new techs (or do a doctrine/operation); the first allows you to buy their land for a tiny amount (plenty of infamous historical examples of this) but this slightly increases the chance they'll rise up and break free from the vassalage; the second is the same but you can now buy their colonies, however now they're even more likely to break free. Obviously if you don't do either of these the normal system stays in place with no revolutions.
Just my personal take on this, would love to hear what other people think!
