Can hackers join games with a different checksum? Public lobby pure vanilla games are always going to be a disaster, join a discord server if you want to play MP. Most of them use mods that change the checksum, and if the hacker is running pure vanilla he shouldn't be able to join your games without also downloading the appropriate mod.

They can. One of the features of the most known hack for hoi4 is "Checksum Bypass - Join lobbies without matching mods or configurations"
Will the game run normally after someone joins this way? No. But that's not an issue, since the goal of this hacker is to crash the lobby anyway.

That´s exactly the Reason why I don´t play Multiplayer and hate Multiplayer-Games. The only exception is World of Warcraft.
