It's so irritating that it's not implemented yet. This should be obvious from the start.

When I'm fighting a war and losing hundreds of thousands of soldiers and millions of money to release a nation, I'm OBVIOUSLY not doing it because I think they are kinda cool and I like their cuisine. I want them to be my puppet. In current system it's just double the work plus you have truce with them. Ridiculous

I see the appeal, but when I use liberate country my aim is usually to harm my opponent without spending infamy, not so much to get the liberated countries as puppets.

Yeah, it would be a nice midpoint between conquest and straight liberation. I use a mod that lets you choose the fate of the released nation (puppet, protectorate, force into power bloc, or leave as-is, with relevant infamy), which works pretty well but is a bit OP as the infamy gets added after the play, letting you skirt around breakpoints easier.

I dont think straight up puppet is good idea, you are obviously trying to skirt around the infamy rules. I think may be forcing into powerbloc is okay. If one wants to release a nation for puppeteering, then just conquer and release the states as puppet. I dont think its a right thing to do otherwise.
