If there's going to be a Cold War game, I'd better be able to play as any nation, choose my economics, and, most critically, I must be able to stage coup d'etats and "interventions" where I can choose to align with certain factions and change the government accordingly. They'd better have unique flags for all government types.

in other words, a PDS game.

the obligatory cold war mod for HOI 4 will probably be almost as good as EvW was meant to be simply with what's already known of its features. HOI 4 is love HOI 4 is life.

Agreed. Something along the lines of the very good Twilight Struggle boardgame.

I'd be into it, because this era also hasn't been covered much in games. Specifically the ones that i've played.

actually it almost hasn't been covered at all. months ago someone asked if there were any other cold war games since EvW was a no-go; so i searched high and low and you know what- the ONE video game in existance that is most relevant to the cold war era: Hearts of Iron 2 w/all DLCs.

seriously, the cold war era is the last unexplored area in the video game industry.

Which is all the more strange, given that the Cold War led to the development of "game theory".

There was also a fairly well-agreed upon timeframe for when it took place -- starting in 1947 and going until either 1989 or 1991 -- for the game I would extend it to 2000, since the 90's were boring, and it is certainly possible the CW could have lasted longer if oil prices stayed high, Reagan didn't push SDI, and Gorbachev didn't come to power or bungle his reforms.

1945 is by far the best dates, it gives a wider coverage of the period, as well as leaving some potential.

Remember WWII wasn't officially over until September 1945 with Japan's official surrender. I'd start it in Jan. 1st 1946.

Also a Cold War game should have HoI military mechanics, Victoria's POP system and economics(improved of course;)), plus its own unique mechanics.

plus post-war 1945 was a quagmire of events. nothing like a million events and key decisions and have nothing else happen for months.
