Been playing for the first time since the ogre update and I'm not having fun with the new magic material spawn system. I play on medium sized maps and a very small portion of the map is arctic. Makes finding the magic materials hard.

I'm not even sure if all the magic materials spawn in the map. In my last game, I controlled most of the temperate and tropical portions of the map and didn't find more than 1 haste berries to craft some "very fast boots", but I had 4 copies of rainbow clover. In addition the empires that controlled most of the arctic and underground/ashlands region (arctica and yddgard respectively) were hostile to me from the very start, so no trading for me. RIP item crafting.

After I almost won a conquest victory, I checked the only other alive player and my ally fjalla tor builder and she had some magic materials for sale. Most of which was focus crystals, and a few arcanum ores and maybe one fireforge stone. While we both controlled almost the whole map directly or through vassals, we don't have enough of the liquid magic materials.

IDK if playing with the fated regions enabled and landmarks compete with map space for magic materials thereby making them more rare.

I very much hope the magic material spawn change is reversed. It's one of the two systems I have major gripes with right now, the other being random items.

Magic materials aren't guaranteed; you may well end up with none of a given type, and the map modifiers that cause terrain to switch make it even more likely since they're given to deleting any magic materials in the process.

Sometimes you just have to adapt to a shortage.

Nope. I have played a very large map with only like two archon bloods on the entire thing. Granted I was playing a desolate barren ocean map with small underground. But yeah. Tome of Transmutation has its benefits haha
