Just a note and given eugen systems background I don't think their will be b17s in the tactical map. But was remembering that horrible game ruse.

RUSE was a strategic scale game where we built a fuckton of things and maps covered massive areas(Normandy actually covered the entire Normandy region of France, it's a large area), so building fucktons of 4-engine bombers and corps level artillery was fine. This game looks to be of Wargame's scale, so I doubt we'll see 4 engine bombers on the tactical map. Might see B-26s and B-25s for the US, that's the largest they'll go(Wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get those either)

yeah. That sounds good. Having the Canadians in though might mean the battle of Caen. Which had a huge strategic bomber force go in first. But it should not be un game although we may see the aftermath.

Didn't the Allies occasionally use Strategic Bombers to obliterate the frontline if they got particularly frustrated or desperate? That was pre-planned attacks of course, not something that would be called in during a battle.

Yes but never as troops moved within 10km or more of any objective... or they would lose their own troops. Check out the screw up that was Caen's bomber softening up.
The strategic bombers obliterated the town and defences and all it gave was cover for the germans in the rubble AND the germans just came out of their bomb shelters with minimum casualties.

From the PCgamer article :

Aircraft will also feature on the battlefield, drawing from period accurate fighters, close air support, and light bombers modeled with realistic speed and maneuverability stats. Heavy bombers have been excluded, as they didn’t play much of a role in tactical warfare.

AFAIK every time the Allies tried to soften up the germans with heavy bombers before an offensive in Normandy they screwed up badly. They literally bombed their own troops, or got close to in several occasions. This happened both with the USAAF and RAF.

Edit: While launching Op. Cobra, Bradley witnessed as the Eighth Air Force missed the Panzer Lehr Division and hit friendly troops that were ready to advance. In fact this was the death of Lt. General McNair. This was not the first time it happened, and I recall something similar happening to the Canadians in the Falaise Pocket. Not to forget the terrible inneficient bombing before Goodwood.

Agree. If it's anything like Wargame, the largest planes I want to see are things like A-20 and B-25 gunships, and even that might be too much.

Edit: thanks for the reassurance, @D-M ;) .

The A-20 could be a heavy attacker with bombs, rockets, and .50cals. It may have less guns than the P-47, but it had them in the nose( give nose guns more accuracy) + it has defensive guns.

Strategic bomber can be added like the naval support, an off-map ability. Maybe one deals more damage and the other covers a wider area?

So will tactical bombers be available like the:
B-26

And, B-25
