Which I think is largely for historical reasons if I recall? Austria taking South Korea wouldn't make much sense if you're trying to keep things at least somewhat deterministic. Granted, there's not much excuse for how AI behaves in war(Which isn't all that bad imo), but that's only a part of the game.

Without the historical restrictions and artificial bonuses and penalties Pdx adds to keep things in check, I think the AI can provide a lot more of what's needed.

Agreed. Most of all the 4x games where a hudge disapointment because from the moment I knew what I was doing (ie I understood the basics of gameplay), the AI became a joke. I'm a bit cautious on this reguard but looking EUIV AI I think Paradox can come up with something better than usual.

I'm worried of the symetric start though; either it gets absurds bonuses (as in civ high difficulty levels) nd colonizes everything before you can blink, and then you need to absurdly abuse an AI with legions of armies (which is terribly aggressive on top because it knows you're a weakling), either it fails to either expand quickly or get a decent army to keep the player at bay and is no challenge at all.

Either way, it's not really fun in the end. Hopefully concepts such as bad boy and rivalries will make it tougher to bully everyone. Wait and see, I guess...

Because this is not historical based, I think the AI becomes an even more important aspect. With all due respect, AI comparable to EU IV just isn't good enough for a randomized space based game. I really hope Pdox looks at this thread and takes note. It's such an important thing and if they nail it then they'll have something legendary.

Reactions:
I think people get caught up in a certain idea of game development where there are a bunch of bars and you can just fill up a bar and get a good AI or something. It's the kind of thing that has to be part of the game design, mechanics, concepts from day 1 and it's way harder than putting money/time into it.

I hope it's good, obviously, but if Paradox comes up with something that works, i'll be happy.
