I was not really referring to the stability of the game, more the stability of the players in the game.

If anyone is offended by this remark you are probably one of those players that are there to exploit hacks, cheats and the like. I am sorry but I do not have time for that kind of immaturity.

Some of us do not have the time (like 5-10 hours) to devote to an MP game. Some of use can only devote an hour or 2 (we have other lives outside of HOI).

Plus it just seems more fun and easier to play in a LAN environment as opposed to a WAN environment. Fosters (not the beer) planning with allies etc.

I come for a gaming time period of the likes of Diplomacy, Risk, World in Flames, Third Reich, Star Fleet Battles etc.

So sorry, no dice not going to waste my time on MP (Internet)

Again it is just my opinion

Just my thoughts,

Basically I love Paradox for not putting the CD key/whatever on the game. Sure it's piracy, and yes, I will admit, I did not buy my copy of HoI 1.
On the otherhand, by the time a friend lent me the game, (So that we could try MP) I could not find a copy in the stores.

And hence, with HoI2, I lent a friend, actually two, my disk. One cannot get to the web, even with the router support on the forums and the other play's only MP with myself. Piracy in theory and practice I suppose. At the same time, I would never have bought HoI 2 if it were not for being Lent HoI 1. Infact one of the major selling points with friends whom I try to persuade to play is that you don't need your own copy to play with me.

But even more fun is using it on a LAN network with friends who come over. I like it cause this way I don't need like 3-4 Copies for my household.

So yes, In a sense I do rip off paradox I guess. But, I also hope that if/when a HoI three comes out, I can get a few more buyer's in the market.

With all due respect, if for every legal copy of HoI2 that is sold there are another 3-4 players who are using pirate copies then what exactly do you think the chances of there being an HoI3 are? You can pitch the "future revenue" until you're blue in the face but it's people's lives and income that you're "futuring" and if the revenues aren't coming in for HoI2 then there will definitely be no HoI3 and there could potentially be no PI. What ever happened to word of mouth anyway? Frankly, I would be quite happy if every pirate spontaneously combusted...and right now would be just fine by me.

If that happened Mr T this forum would be almost empty :D

Frightening, but probably true. :p

Of course the existance of this forum is contingent upon sufficient sales of legal copies too...

Well I have a legal copy of EU1, EU2, HOI, VICKY, CK, and HOI2 :D That should keep the forum up and running for a few days :)

I also pitch reverse revenues. I did end up picking a copy of HoI up, a real, legal, copy. In the end. But it was bargain bin/used, so I don't know how much profit paradox would make from that. (This was a few months before "Platinum" came out) As for word of mouth there is that, true, but it's really hard to sell someone on a game with out uber-graphic's, hot babes, and angry zombies of death. For some reason, I find most people of my youth group are not exactly into this 'thinking' thing. ;)

And some games, I admitedly do pirate. Mostly by and large games that are no longer on the shelves, (Total Annilation for one) which I own legal copies of, and my friends do not. I have once pirated a brand new game, but after a few days of gaming left it because I didn't enjoy it (The game, which is why I didn't want to slap down 60 Bucks for somethign I wasn't sure I would enjoy, and yes I looked for a demo). So In theory I should spontaneously combust :p but I'd like to think I'm more on the Joe Schmoe side of it than any sort of Black beard one. I have never done it for more than two people, only friends and never for profit. And :p I have told em to get a copy of their own, for better or worse. So at the end of the day I don't feel too bad about it all. Hate me if you want I guess, but I'm definately not out to ruin any one's fun/profit, consumer or producer.

I don't hate you :) , but by definition you are "ruining" Paradox's profit. If you could find this forum, then you could have ordered the game online. No matter how you try to justify it, that "slippery slope" you are on is still piracy.

Elsewise we will end playing, hearing and watching only crap when the major companies managed to destroy all the independent and small creative companies.

I agree, look at elixir.

Way Steel Games?

WAT STEEL GAMES ???

I can not anderstand way pepole steel games in the first place, i think that pepole shoud bay the game if they want to play it. This is also because if Production companyes and developers get in more foundings, they can improve the games in a higher limit, also produce more titles, and more games. That pepole is steeling games is a serius problem in the industry, and is just presing the game prices up, due to lower sales.

I personaly think it shoud be cd-key based account on Forum, and to play the game at all in internett, as well as in singel player. This secure the Producents interess, and legual rights.

I also do not anderstand way pepole just can not respect the law? And not make it neccesary for a company to have to use mony on systems to protect their products in the first plaze?

Because any barrier between the gamer and the forum will significantly reduce forum traffic, reduce immersion and esprit de corps, and limit the expansion of the fan base.

But it would be a CD key, you say. Which you would always have handy... Except, wait, Paradox is that lovable company that has no protection garbage, so I don't need to have it spinning to an early death in my drive. So it's probably sitting in a stack of disks somewhere in my office.

So now I have a (small) hassle between me and posting in the forums. I don't know about you, but I'm lazy. If I'm passing by two shops on a saturday afternoon, both of which are advertising samples of snacks or something, I'm more likely to take a sample from the one that DOESN'T require me to fill out a survey.

CD key/"I'm not a pirate" check=more hassle for new users to join=less users=less fanbase=lesser word of mouth advertising=fewer games sold
existing system=Pdox is warm and fuzzy and rocks

The system does NOT need to change.

There is a piracy issue in general. That said, I think Paradox is relatively sheltered from it. Paradox games are not mass marketed with widespread appeal. The majority of the customers are in fact buying customers I would assume just by looking at demographics, HOI is not likely to attract alot of teenagers with broadband and no disposable income ;p

Paradox operates in a niche market. Yes im sure thousands of people have downloaded HoI1 and 2 and then hated the game and deleted it within hours if not minutes. Now if that is a practice paradox has a problem with, as it appears many game companies do, we are at the crux of the issue. So many games are complete and total garbage these days, especially on the PC where there seems to be little to no quality control, if you HAD to pay before you ever tested the game out the market in general would be in huge trouble. I have no problem stating I buy very few games and download alot first.

1) 95% of the games I download reside on my hardrive mounted on daemon tools for all of an hour or two before I delete them.

2) The few games I keep, I generally buy. The notable exception to this was the most recent starwars KOTOR game which was 50% finished and felt it was misrepresented. The game was packaged as complete and had half the game cut out and slapped together in a makeshift ending so Lucas Arts could milk the christmas cash cow.

For the record I do own HoI1-2 Combat Mission Afrika Corps, CMBB, KOTOR1 HTTR, RTW. Not including my devastating mmorpg habit. These are the games I actually have played recently and do play with any frequence.

I just feel there is so much shit out there, and the industry is so broken that it is assinine for an intelligent person to NOT try a game out before they shell out 80 dollars for something they may play for 45 minutes before deciding it was a big mistake.

Wow- I was just poking around to see if I might like to try MP. Nice to know an admitted thief is here- did you steal your car too?

I think that was uncalled for

He has a point about hooking new players and then they become potential buyers and forum goers and spread word about the game, then those people buy it and etc. Paradox makes more money.

Does anybody else think that a controversial thread should be allowed to rest in peace after a month of inactivity, especially when the "new" comment doesn't actually contribute anything new to the thread?
